O2LIV’s Book of the Month!

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

In love we find out who we want to be. In war we find out who we are.

Set in France, 1939 In the quiet village of Carriveau, Vianee Mauriac says goodbye to her husband, Antoine, as he heads for the Front. She doesn’t believe that the N***s will invade France….but invade they do, in droves of marching soldiers, in caravans of trucks, in planes that fill the skies and drop bombs upon the innocent. When a German captain requisitions Vianne’s home, she and her daughter must live with the enemy or lose everything. Without food or money or hope, as danger escalates all around them, she is forced to make one impossible choice after another to keep her family alive.

Today, we are going to touch on Celiac disease, Grave’s disease and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.

There are around 80-100 different autoimmune disorders that affect over 50 million people in the US alone most of which are primarily women.
An autoimmune disorder is when the body mistakenly attacks its own healthy tissues, organs and cells causing a wide variety of issues.

Celiac disease is when gluten is ingested and the immune system attacks the lining of the small intestine. This typically causes mild to severe symptoms of abdominal pain, bloating, weight gain, fatigue or even skin rashes. HBOT could help reduce inflammation in the small intestine, increase overall energy to heal and even help tame skin rashes.

Grave’s disease is when antibodies stimulate overproduction of hormones from the thyroid causing anxiety, tremors, heat sensitivity, weight loss and an enlarged thyroid. HBOT could help by decreasing oxidative stress being caused by excess hormones, improve mitochondrial function and again, reduce fatigue.

Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is when the immune system attacks the thyroid causing an underproduction of hormones. This disorder typically causes symptoms such as weight gain, cold sensitivity and constipation. HBOT could help by reducing chronic inflammation, modulate immunal function and improve overall energy which is needed for our bodies to run properly.

If you are currently dealing with an autoimmune disorder, we encourage you to give us a call with any questions you may have!

Hello everyone! We hope your Friday is fantastic!

Let’s. Talk. Fiber.

What is Fiber?
Fiber is a carbohydrate found in plants that the human body cannot digest or break down into sugar molecules. The different types of fiber is soluble (dissolves in water and is found in oats, beans, peas and apples), and insoluble (does not dissolve in water and provides more bulk to stool and helps food pass through easier and is found in whole wheat, nuts and vegetable skins).

Studies show that an increased amount of fiber in the digestive system can reduce heart disease and diabetes.

It benefits us by improving our heart and digestive health, and managing weight.

Get your fiber in!!

Hello oxygen enthusiasts!
If you have been following our account lately, you know January’s health topic was Mental Health and how hyperbaric oxygen therapy may help! Each month is going to have its very own topic, so stay tuned!

For the month of February, we chose Autoimmune Disorders
-Celiac Disease
-Grave’s Disease
-Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis
-Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
-Lupus
-Scleroderma
-Psoriasis
-Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
-Type 1 Diabetes

What is an autoimmune disorder? For those who may not know, an autoimmune disorder is when the body mistakenly attacks its own healthy cells, tissues and organs which causes mild to severe symptoms such as fatigue, fever, skin rashes and general joint pain or stiffness just to name a few. More than 80-100 different types of autoimmune disorders exist affecting over 50 million people in the U.S. alone, those of which are primarily women.

There is currently no known cure however treatments such as oxygen therapy can be beneficial to slowing down the immune system, enhancing tissue regeneration and reducing inflammation all through a high-oxygen intake. Stay tuned as we are going to post more detailed information on the various conditions and what HBOT could potentially do for each one.

If you or a loved one is dealing with any type of autoimmune disorder, you know how difficult it can be. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy may be a great way to manage symptoms!

Most HBOT centers charge $80-$150 per one hour session. At O2LIV, we have a strong belief that healthcare should be available to everyone therefore, we only charge $30 per an hour and a half session!

Stay tuned for more information on how HBOT could help manage autoimmune disorder symptoms!

“Howdy! My name is Kailey Jorgensen and I became a chronic back patient following a fall while hiking at age 23 in October of 2014. I have since then required 11 back surgeries to try and repair the damage, became a single mama to three beautiful boys and face chronic pain daily. I participate in HBOT for pain management, surgical recoveries, and to slow advanced disc degeneration in my spine. I have completed over a dozen sessions, 1-2 times a week. I had noticed changes in my mental acuity, recovery time from exercise and surgery and overall energy levels within 3 visits. I feel energized and ready to continue my busy day after attending HBOT. I am more mentally capable, in control of my emotions, able to recover more quickly from swimming and I am able to be a present parent rather than be focused on pain when utilizing HBOT. Previously, I experienced several infections after surgeries. Since being introduced to oxygen therapy and completing sessions after three most recent surgeries, I have been infection free with no session complications. This service has provided me with a safe, quiet, and peaceful environment to heal successfully. The staff is so friendly, welcoming, and truly cares for my well-being. They accommodate and anticipate my every need in order to heal optimally. In my experience, their pricing is more affordable than a massage, with even better results. I am a genuinely healthier, happier and a more resilient individual since partaking in this exceptional HBOT experience. I highly encourage everyone to take this opportunity to put your health first and see what oxygen therapy can do for you. I am so thankful this service has been brought to our area and made affordable for the betterment of others. HBOT has become an easy way to heal my body and maintain my health in order to lead a full life. Everyone deserves to receive this kind of beneficial care and service.”
-Eliza Kailey Jorgensen

We really appreciate your testimonial Kailey! It has been awesome working with you and seeing how you improve!

If you feel like HBOT has helped you in any way, we would appreciate any good word you would be willing to put in!

Happy last week of January everyone!

This month’s theme is mental health. Last week we touched on HBOT paired with depression, anxiety and PTSD. This week, we want to take a look at ASD and ADHD and how hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) could potentially have a positive impact.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition affecting how individuals may perceive the world or others around them. There will typically be mild to severe differences in social settings, communication, behavioral patterns, sensory preferences and very focused interests.

HBOT could assist people who deal with ASD by increasing blood flow and oxygen delivery to brain tissue which would reduce neuroinflammation. People with ASD who have done regular HBOT sessions over a period of time have been shown to see improvements with communication, focus, sensory response intensity and even gastrointestinal issues which can be common with ASD.

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects millions of children and carries throughout their adulthood. It also falls under the category of neurodevelopmental disorders. Symptoms can include having a hard time paying attention, being hyperactive or sometimes impulsive.

HBOT could help by also reducing neuroinflammation, increasing cerebral blood flow and lowering oxidative stress. HBOT would support better cognitive function and emotional regulation. It could also improve sleep which in turn would prevent inflammation and poor blood flow.

If you are curious about what a treatment plan would look like for you or someone you love, we highly encourage you to give us a call! Most HBOT facilities charge between $80-$150 per session.

We believe healthcare should be affordable for everyone, so we only charge $30 per session!

Happy Friday everyone! We hope your week has gone well!
Today’s post is geared towards nutrition. Let’s talk about protein.

Proteins are long chains of amino acids that play a crucial role in rebuilding muscles, tendons and ligaments, producing enzymes and hormones, supporting the immune system and transports various nutrients.

You can get protein from farm raised meat, eggs, whole milk (any dairy product really), and even lentils. You can try adding one of these things to each of your meals. Try yogurt with nuts and fresh berries for breakfast, add a hard-boiled egg to your lunch and incorporate some sort of meat into your dinner.

Some studies show you are supposed to have .8 - 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight per day. For example, if someone weighs 120 lbs., they would want to consume 120 grams of protein per day. However, speaking from our personal experience, it is best to be intuitive. In other words, listen to your body! An uptake in protein usually means an uptake in your overall food consumption. This may increase your overall calories and sugar which you may want to be aware of. Remember, everyone’s body is different and may run the most efficiently with different amounts of minerals, calories, sugar, fat and yes, even protein.

Fun fact:
HBOT can stimulate the production of certain proteins, which heavily drive tissue regeneration. We recommend an intake in protein the day before your HBOT session to further enhance your healing process!

At the end of the day, be intuitive and go for whole foods! We also heavily encourage you to do your own research and make the most educated decisions for your own health.

Most mental health conditions imply that circulation and oxygen delivery is not what it should be. This causes us to be lethargic, tired, and low on energy which are all symptoms of various mental health conditions. (We encourage you to go back and read our last mental health post).

HBOT can help depression by reducing inflammation, improving neuroplasticity (how our brain grows) and mobilizing stem cells which would help repair damaged brain tissue.

HBOT can help anxiety by also reducing inflammation, improving sleep and assisting the body’s Peripheral Nervous System (this is the system that puts us into “fight or flight” mode). It can create a calming effect which is one of the hardest things to achieve when dealing with anxiety. By improving sleep, you are improving your body’s ability to properly shut down and heal the brain from being in a prolonged “fight” state.

HBOT can help PTSD by promoting the healing of trauma-induced damage, increasing neurogenesis (growth of new brain cells) and angiogenesis (growth of new blood vessels which would increase blood flow and oxygen delivery).

If you, or someone you love is dealing with any sort of mental health conditions, feel free to reach out to us, we would love to help!

We only charge $30/1.5 hr. session. We believe this treatment should be accessible to everyone in the community. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call!!
