Hi friends! I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd share a longer one and some music. Story time!
I recorded Abode of Bliss in 2009 to fund my trip to India. I wanted to imitate a sitar with my Martin acoustic, so I tuned the guitar down to an open C # (or near it, it's actually tuned with an "Earth Healing" tuning fork, hZ based on a mathematical formula determining the vibration of the planets, according to a 19th century astronomer whose name I have forgotten). Anyway, as it turns out, Earth is approximately a C #.
The picture is from "the Beatles ashram" in Rishikesh. It's actually the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi / Transcendental Meditation ashram where the Beatles visited and were inspired to write many of the songs that appeared on The White Album and forward. It's been long abandoned and has a Return To Oz vibe, everything crumbling and overgrown with jungle life, but you can feel that big things happened there. I met two British documentarians who were traveling with two Indian musicians and they recorded us playing on a rooftop there. I've never seen the footage and have no idea how to track it down. There are egg-shaped structures on the roof that were designed to facilitate meditation and enlightenment, and this photo is from inside one of them.
Bom Bholenath and Sita Ram were recorded a year or two after I returned whilst assisting a yoga teacher training at Kripalu. The energy was high and there were about sixty people singing along. I loved how they got into the spirit of it and that inspired my improvisation. It's a record of one my richest experiences of group mind, and that's why it's important to me.
I haven't added anything to this soundcloud since 2012 or 2013 (time flies) but thought someone here might enjoy it! Let me know how you like it!
