The day after our first Vermont snowfall- A beautiful song for this time of year, sung and played exquisitely last week by two family members who attend our weekly Jam Band. I hope to always extend the welcome expressed in this song through Music Blooms. And, on a personal note, this song makes me think of my mother who has always welcomed any and all to her dining room table. Enjoy!

Thank you, Dr Joseph Itialano, for sharing this interesting scientific article. Music interaction starts before we are born and neuroscience has helped share findings that better understand what is happening in the brain when connected to music and rhythm. A great read!

The human brain physically embodies rhythmic sound in a remarkable symphony that has the power to heal.

Quick reflective moment!! I’m waiting for my first session to begin and my colleague (the incredible ) is rocking in her space with her client. I can’t hear specifics but I hear instruments and pieces of melodies. I’m co-leading a group with my colleague Joanna May later today, who also uses the Greenhouse space for her own sessions and sometimes Pat Lambdin works here as well. (We are all MT-BCs) It makes my heart happy that the first floor of the Greenhouse Building is a buzz with music much of the time.
I try to always say yes to high school students who reach out to find out more about the field of music therapy. Yesterday, I chatted with a wonderful student from a local school who had great questions about working in the field. I was happy to share how music therapy has grown in Vermont, about the fantastic people I call colleagues here and the potential for further growth of music therapy. (we need more MT-BCs) As we closed our discussion, the student commented, “Your job sounds meaningful… and fun”. I agree! - even today, just sitting and listening to the bits of music coming from a session next door!
