As the 40th anniversary of A Winter’s Solstice approached, we began to wonder how to mark it.
The idea emerged of bringing Windham Hill artists together again to make a reunion album, and the response from the artists was simply, Yes.
Since Windham Hill no longer exists as a functioning label, the question became how to make it happen. Kickstarter offered a way to do this independently, and to invite those who have listened to this music over the years to help bring it into being.
The response so far has been heartening—thank you.
We’re now approaching the halfway point.

These first days have meant a great deal.
It’s been wonderful to see more than 200 people join in, and today Will drew the name of one of those early backers. The winner will receive a mint copy of A Winter’s Solstice, which he will autograph. We wanted to share this moment with you. The winner has been contacted directly.

This charango traveled with me and Quique Cruz during the 1986 Windham Hill Summer Concert Tour and was played on “Lago De Montañas”. It somehow made it through all those days still intact. Looking through the case I even found my handwritten note of the open tuning tucked inside.
40 years later I am donating it to this campaign.
