“We had a stillborn child and had to fly from San Diego for her birth. Our surrogate took quite a while to deliver. Madison made a horrific situation bearable and went above and beyond to ensure we were as comfortable as we could be. Madison was always around if we needed something and provided extra support even when we weren't aware that we needed it. I've thought about her over the past year and a half and am so grateful that she was in my life. We and our surrogate made the decision to try a second attempt, and I am so happy to say that we have a baby boy who is healthy and thriving. If it wasn't for the amazing care that we received from Madison, I'm not sure that we would have made another attempt. She is forever in my heart.”

Thanksgiving brings families together around the kitchen, but it’s also a common time for burn injuries. As you prepare your holiday meal, keep these safety tips in mind to protect yourself and your loved ones from preventable burns and kitchen accidents:

Keep children safe:
🔸Teach children about kitchen safety and model safe habits when cooking together.
🔸Keep hot foods, liquids and grease away from the edges of counters and tables to prevent spills and burns.
🔸Never carry a child and hot items at the same time.
🔸When small children are present, block access to stoves and other heat sources.

Practice safe cooking:
🔸Use the back burners on the stove whenever possible, and turn pan handles inward.
🔸Do not leave items cooking on the stove unattended.
🔸Wear close-fitting sleeves to avoid catching them on handles or open flames.
🔸Open pot lids away from your face to prevent steam burns.
🔸Slide pots instead of lifting them to reduce strain and spills.
🔸Use oven mitts instead of potholders for better protection from heat.
🔸Pull oven racks out instead of reaching into the oven to remove food.
