Putting my health before my vanity is the best decision I’ve ever made.

I could get to 8% body fat if I wanted, but I feel so much better fueling my body with the energy that it needs.

• To build muscle
• To optimize my immune system
• To sleep better
• To properly transport nutrients to all of my cells
• To naturally balance my hormones

Life is too short to not feel like a million bucks every day.

Who cares if you don’t have a six-pack? Who cares if you have a little body fat?

Words can’t describe how good it feels to have boundless energy.

Eat more real food. Lift heavier weights. Push your body to do things it’s never done before, and take time to rest and relax.

Stop using the scale, and even the mirror, to measure your progress.

Go off of how you feel throughout the day.

Try warming your legs up first next time you workout.

Plenty of human studies have shown that warming your legs up can boost testosterone levels slightly, and I must say I’m a believer.

Do 3 sets of some kind of leg exercise for about 10 reps and rest 2-3 minutes between sets.

Don’t go too hard though! You’re just warming up.

I’ve been doing this for the past 6 weeks and my lifts have consistently been going up!

Bulking season is in session! 😏

I like to change my fitness efforts based on the seasons throughout the year.

Usually, in the fall and early winter, I find myself eating more food from parties and holidays.

Furthermore, I’ve spent a good chunk of the year trying to lean down, so my body is ready to fuel up and get strong!

For a solid 4-5 months, I’m going to focus on eating more and getting stronger in the gym.

What’re your fitness goals for the next few months, and is there any way I can help you reach them?!

Let me know in the comments!

Getting strong doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to sell your soul to becoming a meathead in the gym.

However, strength training should still be the foundation of your exercise regime.

All lean people have something in common: they’re strong! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Go check out some of the big Instagram influencers who lift weights.

They lift heavy, but they’re not all inherently gigantic.

You can build a strong, healthy, functional body without blowing your muscles up like balloons. 🎈

In this video, I explain how to get strong without getting big. Building muscle and building muscular strength do not necessarily always go hand in hand, and...

BIG PR ALERT 🙌🏻

I’ve been working towards this for a while now and I finally got there...

Five reps with 2 plates on weighted pull-ups (90 lbs). 😈 I’d humbly accept criticism on the last rep 🤷🏻‍♂️, but this was huge for me!

Pull-ups have a special place in my heart, truly:

I remember when I couldn’t even do a pull-up in college and there were dudes around me knocking out muscle ups.

I thought to myself, “I’ll never be able to do something like that...”

I was overweight and weak, but that’s where most people have to start.

I now have to strap on a weighted vest to make muscle ups difficult and I need to attach plates to myself to make pull-ups challenging.

The key is progressive overload.

You need to gradually increase either the resistance weight or the number of reps you perform each workout.

Progress isn’t always linear, but you’ll get there slowly but surely!

CRUSH IT THIS WEEK

Triple chocolate all-natural Harris Teeter ice cream really do be bringing gains. 😤

Another PR on military press from the other day: 160 lbs for 5 reps.

I weigh about 169 lbs right now to give you an idea of how much strength this requires.

By the way, makes an insane preworkout mix now called tiger’s blood and it’s freaking awesome (I’m also not an affiliate for them - I just love the company).

Happy Friday! 💪🏻🏋🏻‍♂️

What is relative strength?

Relative strength is how much weight you can lift RELATIVE to how much you weigh.

For instance, it’s much more impressive that I can press 210 pounds on the incline bench (as advertised!) when I weigh about 165 pounds than it is for a 210 pound guy to bench the same amount.

My relative strength is greater even though we’re lifting the same amount of weight.

This aspect of strength training is the key to building an elite amount of strength.

Oh and by the way, you’ll look way better if you build strength this way, so your body will be both functional and down-right sexy.

Half my bodyweight (80 lbs) for 6 reps. 💪🏻😏 Working my way up to 2 plates!

If you can bench press a few hundred pounds but can't do weighted pull-ups, you have a strength imbalance.

That means your body is not functional. 🙅🏻‍♂️

Hard pill to swallow, but I learned this lesson the hard way:

In college, I had to go to physical therapy because all I did in the gym was flat bench, barbell squats, and deadlifts.

My spine started to straighten out because of the loads I was bearing on my back.

Consequently, my vertebrae disks started to pinch a nerve that ran down my leg.

It took months of physical therapy to realign my spine, and this experience completely changed the way I work out.

It doesn't matter if you're a guy or a girl. It doesn't matter if you're old or young.

You need to build strength throughout your entire body.

Not just your pressing muscles.
Not just your glutes and legs.

Your whole body.

If you don't know how to do this properly, it sounds like you need my fitness course. 😁

P.S. Weighted pullups are a better pulling exercise than deadlifts. 😎
