What happens in a restorative yoga or yin class??
Restorative yoga hydrates, releases, and remodels fascia by applying gentle, sustained, and supported pressure for 3–5+ minutes, moving beyond muscle relaxation into deep connective tissue. Using props to eliminate effort, this practice encourages fascia to become more pliable.
Key effects of restorative yoga on fascia include:
*Hydration and Viscosity Changes: The slow,, gentle stress on the tissue helps the fascia become more supple and less rigid.
*Release of Adhesions: The long-held, supported poses allow the fascia to release tension and "melt".
*Reorganization of Collagen: Sustained, gentle pressure helps remodel fascia by breaking down old collagen and encouraging healthier, more functional alignment.
*Nervous System Regulation: By promoting a state of deep relaxation, the practice reduces stress hormones (cortisol) and signals the nervous system to let go of tension.
*Emotional Release: Because fascia stores memories and physical tension, the deep release can lead to emotional release.
The process often involves sensations like softening, tingling, or shifting temperatures in the body.
