Pure Optics Pure Optics, LLC was founded by esteemed educator and Master Optician, Mr. Phernell Walker, MBA, ABOM Mr.

Anyone who meets Phernell Walker knows that optics is his passion. He has become an internationally recognized speaker because of his unique talent for teaching his students everything they need to know to become a professional optician. He authored the textbook, Pure Optics, to help his students prepare for the ABO and state board exams. Walker is one of only a few hundred people to earn a Master's in Ophthalmic Optics (ABOM). He currently serves as the VP of Optometric Relations VSP, Eyefinity. His educational achievements include an MBA, BS in Business, and an AS in Ophthalmic Optics. He is certified by both the American Board of Opticianry (ABOC) and the National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLEC). Former Adjunct Professor, Pacific University College of Optometry, recipient of the Joseph Bruneni Award in Optics from the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, Beverly Myers Achievement Award in Ophthalmic Optics, National Academy of Opticianry Educator of the Year, and Helen Keller Benefactor Award for his work in optics.

The Pacific North West (PNW) rain took a few hours off.

Everyone deserves access to eyecare, no matter their ZIP Code!

This past Saturday, I had the privilege of giving back to the Portland community through the VSP Vision Care Eyes of Hope mobile clinic.

As a Master Optician, it was an honor to use my skills to help patients and meet so many smiling faces, and help provide glasses for those in need. 💙

There’s truly no better feeling than watching someone’s world come into focus—seeing their face light up as they put on new eyeglasses for the very first time. That moment is Pure Joy, and a reminder of why this work matters.

The VSP Vision Care Eyes of Hope clinic is more than just vision care—it’s a promise of hope for those who’ve gone without. I’m grateful VSP and Eyefinity for the chance to serve and give back to my community. 👓

Who is Phernell Walker?

Mr. Walker is a nationally recognized ophthalmic optics and business management speaker, as well as the author of the textbook, Pure Optics, Second Edition. Mr. Walker was honored as the recipient of the prestigious Beverly Myer’s Achievement Award in Ophthalmic Optics (2011), the Joseph Bruneni Award in Optics by the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (2017) as well as the Educator of the Year by the National Academy of Opticianry (2017).

Mr. Walker is one of only a few hundred people to earn a Master in Ophthalmic Optics (ABOM). His other educational achievements include a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Marylhurst University, in Portland, Oregon, a Bachelor of Science in Business (BSB) from Excelsior College, in Albany, New York, and an Associate Science Degree in Ophthalmic Optics (AS) from Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. He is certified by the both the American Board of Opticianry (ABOC) and National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLEC). He has served as a faculty member for the American Optometric Association (AOA), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), International Vision Expo, American Board of Opticianry National Conference, Professional Optician's of Florida (POF), Armed Forces Optometric Society (AFOS), and at eye care conferences in 43 states. He has authored articles on lens and frame technology for Ophthalmology Times and Vision Care Products News Magazine. In January 2004, Mr. Walker was honored in Vision Monday’s “Forty under Forty”, which listed forty of the nations brightest and innovative ECP's in the country.
