I was honoured to sing “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” in church, a heartfelt request from the lovely couple.

Though its exact origins are unclear, this timeless song is believed to have roots in 19th-century African-American churches. Composer Kenneth Morris is credited with popularising it in 1940 after hearing it sung by a train porter. He added a few lyrics, and the song soon became a gospel classic, later embraced by jazz and folk traditions.

Its message remains clear and powerful: a prayer to walk closely with Jesus through a world full of trials, seeking His peace, love, purpose, and rest.

I came across Tunde’s post a few years ago and was moved by his heartfelt determination to help children from underserved communities in the slums of Nigeria and across Africa. Through chess, he has been raising awareness and instilling discipline, helping these children access better educational opportunities. It has been a joy to witness their transformation.

Recently, Tunde set a new Guinness World Record for the longest chess game ever played, a feat he undertook to further raise awareness and support for these children, helping to turn this dream into reality.

Such achievements require a strong will, a resolute mind, clear vision, and resilience.

The lives of these children have been forever changed, and they will always be grateful for the profound impact Tunde has had on them.

Congratulations, Tunde! Nigerians, Africans, and people around the world are proud of you!

Carnegie Hall Debut!
Congratulations are in order!

Today, the and the gave an outstanding concert performance (as usual) of Dmitri Shostakovich's 'Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk'.

Below is a link to the warm review by the New York Times.

Review: The Boston Symphony Plays a Sober ‘Lady Macbeth’

The chorus and orchestra, under Andris Nelsons, gave a clear and controlled concert performance of Shostakovich’s crushing opera at Carnegie Hall.

Next month (February) makes it exactly a year since I became a part of this wonderful musical family and thankful for all the opportunities for growth while contributing musically to the body and community.

Do not let the fear of losing keep you from playing the game!

It's incredible how a little guesture of kindness can come spiraling down in myriads of positive returns.

As you go on this new week, make putting smiles on people's faces and joy in their hearts a priority. That's the essence of living.

"And in this shall everyone know that you are Mine if you love one another".

Have a beautiful and fruitful week ahead family 💖

It is the Lord's doing and marvelous in our sight.

It was a journey of growth, learning, unlearning and re-learning. There were some hurdles of varying degrees on the path, but God saw me through it all.

It is a long story which I will share some day....

To everyone about to or already embarked on a journey (whatever kind), please be encouraged and know that the path to greatness is not smooth. You will lose certain things in the process but will also gain the most important things and companions.
IT IS A PROCESS.....Walk through it patiently with your head raised high in HUMILITY.

To all my guides (instructors, friends and family) who showed up at the various stages of this journey, I say a big, 'THANK YOU'...

I remember walking down to my high school where I taught the week before mother passed and all of a sudden, this song starts to play in my head repeatedly and made me very emotional. Didn't know and wondered why this was happening all of a sudden.

I just shrugged off the feeling and sang on for a few hours and in less than a week later, mum passed on to glory....

To every mother out there, this is for you and everyone who's lost a dear one, this is also for you 💝..

'Nnemu nnemu' is an old time Nigerian (igbo) tune (by Funmi Adams) set to praise the mother for her tireless efforts in conceiving, delivering and ensuring the child gets the best of and from life.

This version is a medley of Nnemu and Onyeka Onwenu's 'Ochie D**e' (The great one).

*Lyrics*

Nnemu nnemu oo
Ezigbo nnemu eee
Chukwu biko nnam gozie nnemu
Nye ya oganiru

I ma na onwa itenani
ka nnem buru n'afo
O bu ego
O bu akwa
K'a m nyebe nnemu oma

A ga mu a yoba Chineke
K'ogoziere m nnemu o

Chukwu biko gozie
Ochie d**e mama
Nna gozie nnemu o
Ochie D**e nnemu

Translation

My mother, my mother o
My good mother e
God my Father please bless my mother
Grant her success

Do you know that my mother carried me in her womb for nine months?
Is it money,
is it clothing,
I will give my good/beautiful mother.

I will ask the Lord to please
bless my mother

God, please bless my mother,
My mother the great one,
Father bless my mother,
My mother the great one.

Pianist: @ Temidayo Balogun
