Nik's Sew Crafty

Nik's Sew Crafty Sewing and many other crafts has been a therapy for me during my transition from nurse to stay at home mom. I am not just a nurse or a mom.

I can be other things too. So join me in all my triumphs and failures and let's learn from each other!

A special request, or challenge..... can't wait to see if I can figure this pattern out and get it sent off to my cousin. Frank Taber 🥰 Idk how long this will take me, I have had to actually do a bit of research to get THIS far lol. But I WILL get it done. I'm invested and intrigued by this. Who knows, maybe I can make some to sell at the farmers market! 😁

I love this book I purchased at Hobby Lobby a couple of months ago. This is the FIRST washcloth I have actually made following the pattern in the book.
Now.... to make a handful more in varying colors. I need suggestions on color variation! Any ideas?

Truly impressed with how hard it was to weave in the 1800s! Loved the embroidery work done by a 12 year old back in that era, and just could not imagine how back breaking it all was. I learned so much about the tasks to survive in their generation and have so much respect. And on another note, glad there are some advances in how things are done to decrease time spent on one project! Lol

Now: back to working on my crochet skills for ya'll to enjoy and ONE DAY perhaps purchase when I get enough inventory made up and a website set up. 😅☺️

As I went through some yarn yesterday for my vacation trip, I came across yarn I bought years ago. I spent the entire day unraveling a huge knotted mess of this pom pom yarn. Idk what I'm gonna use it for. I planned to use it as an edge for a lovey I made little Miss Taytum, but..... it did not look so great after a few turns. I'm exhausted thinking about the mess I had to fix lol.

I'm so flattered by all the likes and follows from everyone. I've finally got over 100 followers and I'm ALMOST there with likes as well! It is so encouraging as I learn, create, and explore my talents, to see someone like the things I've made. I am trying hard to make sure I give credit to those that have provided patterns or advice. I will ALWAYS share links for you all to see if it's not my own pattern or something I've figured out on my own. Have a blessed day and keep liking and sharing!

Much love,
Nik

This is great! This woman has every right to be proud of her son for taking on a hobby that has been passed down for centuries!

This is my adopted son, he discovered 8 months ago that he likes to crochet, but rather than playing ball, I'm posting this photo to show that he can do what he likes and that crochet has no s*x! Please don't criticize him.😌🥰

Bracelets! Harlyn is making threaded Bracelets and Rowyn is making pot holders for selling at market in 2026! They want a bunch of little selling items (this is just the start of their ideas) to make money. The goal is to split their earnings 3 ways:
1) 10% for tithe
2) half of the rest will go to them for their hearts work
3) the last half will go to buying bibles for those that visit our church and are in need of a Bible or for a set of good devotionals for their junior church as rewards. We will donate the funds and let the pastor decide.

I'm proud of them for working hard and thinking of others needs/ wants in the process.

“My skills involve sharp objects”

Here is the beautiful thing about my story, my business. It was never supposed to be a part of my plan in life. I was supposed to be a nurse and that was it. Other than a mom and wife, that is all I ever dreamed of. We just happened to have a lot of unforeseen events, hospital bills, personal family issues and a lot of tears. I finally hung my stethoscope up with a full intent of going back to work full time once I got my kids back on track and bills figured out after the torpedo I felt we were hit with. However..... higher powers had other plans.

I had previously gotten a sewing machine for mother’s day but I barely pulled it out of the box sadly. I finally had time to focus on this since I was home with kids and managing doctor appointments and trying to lessen the bills such as daycare costs (even as a nurse, I was barely bringing anything home after paying a retirement plan, health insurance and child care costs for the twins). We did the math and it just seemed that it would be healthier mentally for everyone if I was home and it might actually make more sense financially for me to be home.

The day I pulled myself up to this machine sitting on my table in our family room downstairs was the game changer for me. With the help and a lot of patience of some dear friends of mine, I cut my first pattern and I learned to sew some basic stitches. From that point on, I was hooked to finding scrap materials, old fabrics nobody else wanted anymore like curtains, sheets, tablecloths, etc. and turning them into something someone would love. I love looking for bargain prices at the craft stores and online even as I look to challenge myself on the newest trends and look for some inspiration.

Sewing is the biggest part of this journey, it has mended my soul. I would cry after a lot of failure with patterns or attempts at a new project. But once I finished, I always felt completed, I felt closure, I felt whole and I felt true joy in knowing I could do something that I once couldn’t. And my kids seeing this, also learned, they could do this too, if they truly tried- Sewing opened us all up to ability to heal and mend and move forward with life. This is how I started to think about the crazy idea of starting a business in sewing.
