Atrial fibrillation (Afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm that can lead to serious complications if untreated. But Afib doesn’t always feel like you might expect. Symptoms can be subtle and easy to overlook.
Here are 5 symptoms of Afib you shouldn’t ignore:
1. A racing, fluttering, or irregular heartbeat
You may feel like your heart is skipping beats, beating too fast, or fluttering in your chest. These sensations can come and go, and may happen even when you’re resting.
2. Feeling unusually tired
When your heart isn’t pumping efficiently, your body may not get the oxygen it needs. You might feel worn out more easily, even after a full night’s sleep or during routine activities.
3. Shortness of breath
You may find yourself getting winded doing things that didn’t used to be a problem — like walking up stairs, carrying groceries, or going for a short walk.
4. Dizziness or lightheadedness
An irregular rhythm can affect blood flow to your brain, leaving you feeling faint, unsteady, or like you need to sit down suddenly.
5. Chest pain, pressure, or discomfort
Some people experience tightness, pressure, or pain in the chest. This can be a sign your heart is under strain and should always be evaluated.
These symptoms aren’t always dramatic, but they shouldn’t be ignored.
At Current Clinic, we focus on helping people understand their risk, catch Afib early, and get the right care fast.
