Helpful information when looking at accessibility in dentist offices.

How do you know if a dental office is actually accessible? What should you ask before booking an appointment?

In our latest blog, SCI BC's InfoLine Services Lead Heather Lamb breaks down what to look for, what to ask, and how to advocate for care that actually works for you. Read the full article at https://sci-bc.ca/ask-infoline-accessible-dentist/

Here's our peer-approved list of questions to ask your dental office:
Do you have accessible parking?
Is there a level access route from the accessible parking (or closest transit stop) into your building?
Do you have an accessible washroom?
Is there sufficient space beside the dental chair for me to transfer into it from my wheelchair?
Can your staff assist with my transfer?
Do you have a pillow or props to assist me to sit comfortably or safely in your chair
Can I remain in my own wheelchair during the appointment?
Are your staff trained to work with wheelchair users?

What else would you add to the list? Let us know in the comments!

By taking care of yourself, you’re more able to fully show up and take care of others. It’s not selfish to take care of yourself first. Recreational Therapy helps caregivers and clients. This is a wonderful resource for caregivers.
Thank you, Disability Action Center NW, INC for sharing!

Are you a caregiver! WSU has an art program for you! They are looking for caregivers to take part in an 8-week art project program. Art supplies are free. Partnering with Snoqualmie Valley Little League, Encompass is a proud sponsor of Challenger Baseball, where flexibility, adaptability, and fun are top priorities. This adaptive baseball program is for boys and girls ages 5 and up with physical and developmental challenges. All players are paired with a 'buddy' aged 10+ to assist as needed and will enjoy playing at their level in a low-pressure environment.

Wonderful to see this accessibility shared between these two parks! Thank you, Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission!

Do you or someone you know use a mobility device and live near Spokane? If so, you’ve got six more weeks to use the Action Trackchair at Riverside State Park before it returns to Lake Sammamish on May 1!

Call the Riverside park office at (509) 465-5064 to reserve your free, 90-minute session! Bring a friend to help you transition between chairs; then take the Trackchair for a spin on one of two designated trails. You can even use it to go fishing from several points along the trail.

More details about reserving and using the Trackchair can be found on our website: parks.wa.gov/ADAAccessibleRecreation.
