Jojo is generally quite laid back, something I LOVE about her. It can be challenging though, to let things unfold at her pace and choosing. Over the years I’ve learned that being in support of her gives us access to more energy a lot faster..!❤️

Helen Ingersoll has me thinking about gluteus medius. My hip flexors are pulling extra duty and creating tension l don’t want in my hips and thigh. Here’s one great exercise to strengthen it. Shew, I know a lot of folks who are struggling with the shifts and changes the new year has rung in. I encourage you to keep finding safe places for your heart and mind. Deep breaths, kind acts, and standing strongly for what you want to see in the world.

"Shanti" is the Sanskrit word for "peace" and some days chanting that is my self compassionate act. Or maybe what I silently send to a stranger I pass in the grocery store. Or to my horses when I move through the paddocks. These small kind acts... I'm reminding myself... ♥️

how helpful positive reinforcement is for mundane tasks. JoJo walks up and actually asks for the tube because it is presented gently and she gets a reward afterwards.  I start this type of thing with the halter on and just introducing the tube and letting them explore it -sniff it, lick it, and then gradually it goes in the mouth and everything is done gently with their acceptance until you get to this phase -which happens pretty quickly and they will just walk up and offer to help. I do this for bridling, soaking feet, standing still on a loose line/rein; lots of things that can be really helpful and build confidence.

Big holiday wishes to you all.

I had an interesting experience last week with my horse. I participated in a clinic where the clinician was super focused on breath and body awareness. My young-ish horse has not been a lot of different places and was quite distracted. We focused on me really getting grounded in my body so she could "find" me. This is sooo hard to be consistent with! I didn't share any story with this person about my life with yoga or horses. When I could really get into my body and breath, the whole feeling would change and my mare would get quiet and soft. When I would lose that, she would whinny, and get distracted and tense. She was connected with me the whole time, not trying to leave and very aware of where I was, but I did not have her attention... Well, since everything is about everything I had this wonderful opportunity to reflect (again) on how presence is a moment to moment practice! The best line from the clinic - There is no future, there is ONLY now. Oh, how I know this, and yet continually forget. 🙂

How often are we practicing yoga or in a conversation, or with our horse, but not really "there"? I LOVED what this experience showed me. I love how horses are so willing to be there for us but they demand (even if it's quiet and subtle) that we show up if we're going to get the good stuff. Substitute anything else for "horses". 🙂. And it humbled me. I am practicing all of these things right along with you and that is a privilege.
