Dear fellow cosmetic manufacturers,
I know it can be extremely frustrating to have to meet certain requirements for selling products that seem quite simple to make, however my husband and I have tried to go about this the legal and correct way and have spent ALOT of money to bring this community a legitimate and safe business that is in compliance with the standards set forth by the local, state and federal agencies. I do wish everyone manufacturing and selling products to our community could try to meet the same standards, especially when it comes to ensuring customer safety and well being. While I may not always agree with some of the regulations set forth, they are there for customer safety, so I get it. I have seen some very questionable practices from individuals that I'm not quite sure they fully understand the process of what they're making. I question if their products would be safe or have been made using good manufacturing practices even. Do they completely understand formulation and percentages, or SDS and IFRA documentation and manufacturer recommendations? I would think most of them have never even heard of such and these are all things that are there to ensure customer safety. Please be careful. If you're a manufacturer or customer either way, you need to be careful about what you're making and selling and also what you're buying. Also just because something is marketed as "natural" does NOT mean that it's safe. I can't stress that enough.

I'd like to give a special thank you to Linda Peace Davis. When we opened almost 2 yrs ago, she came by to check us out. We are not within the city limits. Our business is on the outskirts of town on our farm. I have personally supported a lot of businesses in Carrollton through the years and wish I could say I had received the same support in return, unfortunately that has not always been the case. However last year Linda came by, even though we're on the outskirts and bought from us at Christmas in her quest to shop local. So this year we were invited to attend the Christmas event in Carrollton downtown. (Also a HUGE thank you to Heather Clymer as well, for thinking of some of us who are not within the city limits and inviting us to be a part of the fun and festivities). Of course the first person to stop by our tent to wish me luck was Linda. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate her for extending her kindness and caring about ALL the other businesses in the city AND in the county. Your effort, support and genuine kindness does not go unnoticed. I just wanted you to know, in case noone has told you how great of a job you're doing, you are doing a great job.

With the increasing hype of coconut oil products for your skin and body, I wanted to take a moment to share some information.
Did you know coconut oil is used in our soaps as the "cleansing" oil component. This means when coconut oil is used in the recommended percentages along with other oils to make a well balanced bar of daily "cleansing" soap, there can be great results. However coconut oil in large quantities or used over time can actually strip the skin of natural oils, making it dry the skin out.
While soap rinses off and is defined as a substance used for washing and cleansing purposes, it makes perfect sense why coconut oil would be used in soap. What about those other products? Leave on products? At Fine & Dandy you will not find coconut oil used in any of our body butters or other leave on cosmetic products. Not only is it too cleansing and drying over time, but it is also very high on the comedogenic scale. This means it is considered to be very pore clogging and likely to cause acne. Coconut oil should not be used in facial products especially for this reason.
Coconut oil used in soap for cleansing purposes when mixed with other moisturizing rich oils is okay. Otherwise, I'd try to stay clear of it for any long term or everyday use. I hope this clarifies some of the misinformation out there being spread around.
