Sunday Seva

Sunday Seva A free community yoga class rooted in the principles of Seva, or selfless service. What sets this yoga class apart is its commitment to volunteerism.

In 2022, sisters Samantha and Hannah Martinez embarked on a heartfelt journey to foster community connection and promote wellness through a free yoga class rooted in the principles of Seva, or selfless service. Recognizing the transformative power of yoga and the growing need for accessible wellness resources, they envisioned a space where individuals of all backgrounds could come together to practice, learn, and grow. The Martinez sisters, both passionate yoga practitioners and advocates for community well-being, believed that yoga should be accessible to everyone, irrespective of financial constraints. This vision led to the creation of a vibrant community gathering that not only emphasizes physical health but also nurtures the mind and spirit. Each class features a diverse array of yoga styles, from gentle Hatha to dynamic Vinyasa, ensuring that participants can find a practice that resonates with them. All instructors generously donate their time and expertise, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere where community members can feel supported and encouraged. This spirit of giving extends beyond the mat; the class welcomes canned food and monetary donations, which are directed to local charities and to yoga scholarships and passes, reinforcing the idea that service to others is at the core of their mission. Understanding that not everyone has access to yoga mats or props, Samantha and Hannah have ensured that no one is turned away. They provide mats and equipment for those in need, allowing participants to focus on their practice without barriers. This thoughtful approach exemplifies their dedication to inclusivity and community welfare. As the free community yoga class continues to grow, it has become more than just a place to practice yoga; it is a sanctuary for connection, healing, and mutual support. Participants often share their stories and build friendships, creating a tapestry of experiences that enriches the community. Through their unwavering commitment to Seva, Samantha and Hannah Martinez have not only empowered individuals to embrace their wellness journeys but have also cultivated a culture of compassion and generosity. Their initiative stands as a testament to the profound impact of community-driven projects and the beauty of selfless service. As word spreads and attendance grows, the sisters remain focused on their mission to make yoga accessible, foster community bonds, and inspire others to give back, one class at a time.

Top left: Gideon McLean- Gideon has been a visionary, helping us to create the festival, Gideon also helps with social media, groundwork, and was the emcee day of festival, announcing all the teachers sponsors and doing one heck of a job!

Melinda Swartz- Melinda has been our treasurer, keeping our finances straight, along with rounding up the food trucks and creating a pop-up coffee shop with her family day of festival. Melinda also worked hard on all of the signage that you saw all around the festival telling you where everything was, her efforts really contributed to the fabulousness and flow of the day.

Center top: Alicia Roberts- Alicia has been the secretary keeping everything organized as best you can through the chaos lol. Alicia also created our schedule for our volunteers and ourselves to keep us on track throughout the day. Alicia is not afraid to put boots on the ground, help to set up tents and tear down with her efforts, the festival ran smooth and on time!

Bottom left: Monica Maxine-Monica is our social media guru! Her incredible eye to detail has kept us in the no and relevant out there on the inter-web. Her true skill has helped to elevate our festival and bring it into today’s world! Monica works hard putting together incredible advertisements as well as putting together 10x10 pop up awnings!

Bottom center: Samantha Martinez- Samantha is president and overseas all the festival! Her desire to create community with friends and family is all she’s ever wanted and is determined to make it happen through blood sweat and tears. Sometimes more tears than any other fluid lol but we’re getting the job done!

Next time you see one of these folks out in the community, give them a high five or a hug and just let them know that they’re doing a great job and if you want to get involved, please contact us. We’d love to have you on our crew!
