Martin Yoga

Martin Yoga Yoga that is taught with Love. Compassion. Joy. Equanimity. The mat is the launching pad, the Yoga is the vehicle and the destination is the Self.

I believe that yoga is a lifelong journey that never ends and we can all do yoga in some way shape or form. I ask my students to do their best and I remind them that their Yoga practice is a metaphor for life. When the going gets tough, just take a breath and keep your drishti. My philosophy is "It's YOUR practice".

This is the 108th playlist that I have put together. I know that playing music in yoga classes is a topic of discussion but I like music and I play music in my classes most of the time.

I’ve been listening to Marvin Gayeā€˜s album What’s Goin On from beginning to end and it’s truly a masterpiece. He released it in January 1971 in response to what was happening in the country. The lyrics really speak to what he saw and felt at that time. Fast-forward to 2026 and his words are applicable today to what we see happening in the world around us. Plus, it’s just amazing music.

So I chose to bookend Marvinā€˜s album with the a ca****la version of Om Nama Shivaya by the amazing Sheila Chandra and finishing it with Donna De Loryā€˜s modern version of Om Namah Shivaya and then finishing with Dharma Mitra’s Om Namah Shivaya.

Shiva, also known as Mahadev, is the epitome of compassion, impartiality, and love - standing for what is just and right upholding balance in the universe. During times of upheaval, Shiva can bring inner peace, strength, and transformation.

Shiva represents pure consciousness, is the destroyer of negativity, and is a compassionate protector. Chanting ā€œOm Namah Shivaya,ā€ helps calm the mind, reduce anxiety, and provides a sense of being grounded and protected during chaos.Ā

I’ll be playing this a lot.

So I finally did it. I actually sat down and recorded my first podcast like I’ve been saying I was going to do for years and uploaded it. You can find it through Spotify or the podcast app on Apple devices. Search for ā€œChitta Chatā€. You can also find it through my website martinyoga.com - I hope you enjoy it. There’s a lot more to come!

A sweet gift from a student who recently came back from India!
Google AI says:
In India, Rudraksha (Tears of Shiva) are sacred, dried seeds from the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree, deeply revered in Hinduism for their spiritual power, believed to grant protection, well-being, and spiritual growth, traditionally worn as malas (necklaces) by yogis and devotees to aid meditation, focus, and connection to Lord Shiva, with different ā€œfacesā€ (mukhis) associated with specific divine energies and planets.

Wow! What an amazing weekend at Ratna Ling with an amazing group of people. I’m so grateful I’m so thankful for everyone that came along for the ride and trusted me to guide them through the weekend with some movement lots of breath lots of meditating to really just decompress. My goal for this weekend Retreat was to unplug and for everyone to just go. And that’s what happened. Really grateful for everybody who came along and so grateful to be able to do this.

Virabhadrasana II
Vira = Hero
Bhadra = Friend

This pose represents the warrior’s preparation to confront whatever challenge lies ahead, observing the battlefield in a strong, grounded, balanced brave stance.

In Hindu mythology, Virabhadra is an avenger who was brought to life when Shiva tore out one of his dreadlocks and slammed it into the ground. The Warrior was born out of anger but ultimately works for the good. An army of warriors for love.
We all need a LOVE RESURRECTION.
