This is the 108th playlist that I have put together. I know that playing music in yoga classes is a topic of discussion but I like music and I play music in my classes most of the time.
Iāve been listening to Marvin Gayeās album Whatās Goin On from beginning to end and itās truly a masterpiece. He released it in January 1971 in response to what was happening in the country. The lyrics really speak to what he saw and felt at that time. Fast-forward to 2026 and his words are applicable today to what we see happening in the world around us. Plus, itās just amazing music.
So I chose to bookend Marvinās album with the a ca****la version of Om Nama Shivaya by the amazing Sheila Chandra and finishing it with Donna De Loryās modern version of Om Namah Shivaya and then finishing with Dharma Mitraās Om Namah Shivaya.
Shiva, also known as Mahadev, is the epitome of compassion, impartiality, and love - standing for what is just and right upholding balance in the universe. During times of upheaval, Shiva can bring inner peace, strength, and transformation.
Shiva represents pure consciousness, is the destroyer of negativity, and is a compassionate protector. Chanting āOm Namah Shivaya,ā helps calm the mind, reduce anxiety, and provides a sense of being grounded and protected during chaos.Ā
Iāll be playing this a lot.
