It is awesome to see a young adult complete the core part of their time at Engage, move into their own apartment in Cedar City, and stay in the area to finish their undergraduate degree at Southern Utah University. That kind of step says a lot about the work they have done to build more independence, follow-through, and confidence in daily life.

What I appreciate about this next chapter is that they still get to stay connected to Engage’s community while receiving outpatient support along the way. This is the kind of transition we care about, helping young adults keep moving forward in real life while staying connected to the people and support that matter.

At Engage Young Adult Transitions, we are continuing to deepen our clinical support for young adults struggling with OCD. Zac Maag, AMFT, was recently trained in Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), an approach that helps clients understand OCD through inferential confusion, where doubt pulls them away from direct experience and into imagined scenarios.

I-CBT helps young adults disengage from doubt-driven reasoning, reconnect with reality-based thinking, and reduce the need for compulsions. Expanding this area of clinical support reflects Engage’s ongoing commitment to thoughtful, individualized care.

It is graduation day!! We are excited to celebrate a former Engage participant graduating from Southern Utah University with a degree in engineering. Watching young adults put in the work, stay with the process, and reach milestones like this is always a big deal for our team.

This is the kind of outcome that speaks to growth, persistence, and the value of having the right support along the way. We are proud of them and excited to see what is next.

Engage is back at this year’s Annual Autism Symposium in Georgia, and we’re grateful to be part of it. We’re thankful for the opportunity to support a conference advancing thoughtful, important work with neurodivergent young people and the professionals who support them.

Some young adults do not need an intermediate step before entering a community-based environment. When it is clinically appropriate, Engage can support a direct-from-home enrollment, giving young adults the chance to begin working on independence, connection, and daily life in a real-world setting from the start.

What makes that possible is the level of clinical support wrapped around them while they live in the community. With therapists, case managers, psychiatry, and strong day-to-day coordination, young adults get real support without losing the autonomy needed to actually build a life.

Vans are loaded. Young adults are rolling out. It is mountain bike season!!

Weekly outdoor adventures are just part of life at Engage. Laura, our adventure coordinator, gets our young adults out skiing, mountain biking, climbing, and hiking every week. Real connection, real challenge, and a lot of fun. It is what we do.

Gen Z faces a "confidence gap": feeling ready on paper but struggling in the real world.

This isn't a generational flaw but a systemic failure of education and training. Young adults are ambitious and digitally fluent, yet often lack the professional norms, resilience, and soft skills needed to navigate workplace ambiguity.

To bridge this gap, we need to invest in mentorship, transparent training, and psychological safety at work.

One of our Engage young adults has been doing an internship at Cedar City Bike Works, and it has been a solid fit. Being in a place that lines up with your interests can help you find your lane while building real employment skills.

This is how independence starts to stack up: showing up consistently, communicating, taking feedback, and following through. Those small reps matter, and they move the needle for confidence, capability, and momentum.

Discomfort is not always danger, and that distinction can change everything.

Dr. Jack Hinman explores a powerful idea for parents and caregivers: growth often requires some discomfort. The goal is not to eliminate every anxious moment, but to better understand the difference between true unsafety and the kind of challenge that helps a young person build resilience, coping skills, and confidence.

What is manageable for one person may be overwhelming for another, and helping them grow means learning their specific needs while supporting them through healthy challenge, not automatic avoidance.

Sometimes the work is not removing every hard feeling. Sometimes the work is staying present long enough for growth to happen.

Struggling with a friend who constantly cancels, overshares, or demands too much? You’re not alone.

The key often lies in your attachment style, which shapes your "relational operating system" and how you set boundaries.

Anxious styles may struggle to set boundaries, avoidant ones build walls, and secure attachment allows for flexible, clear communication. Understanding your style is the first step to healthy friendships.

Healthy boundaries in friendships help prevent resentment. Learn how to set limits kindly, communicate needs, and stay consistent.

We all have an attachment style, and it is not as fixed or simple as many people think.

Dr. Jack Hinman shares an important perspective: attachment exists on a continuum, can look different across relationships, and may present differently in neurodivergent people. That matters because too often, behavior is misunderstood without enough curiosity about what is happening underneath it.

The hopeful part is this: while we do not choose the experiences that shaped us, we can become more aware of our patterns and move toward greater security. For parents, caregivers, and young adults, that awareness can open the door to healthier relationships, better communication, and more compassion

What changes when we stop labeling and start understanding?

Kratom originates from Southeast Asia and contains compounds that act on opioid receptors in the brain. While sometimes used for pain or mood, it carries significant risks.

The FDA warns of addiction, contamination, and severe side effects like liver damage and respiratory issues. It is not approved for any medical use. If you or a young adult you know is struggling with substance use, specialized support is available.
