Not every young adult is an extrovert, and that’s okay. For autistic and neurodivergent young adults, social life can be intensely sensory and draining. With the right coaching, support, and pacing, we can expand their bandwidth without burning them out.

Watching a young adult wrap up their time at Engage and take the next step is one of the best parts of this work. This week, one of our guys is moving forward by transferring from Southern Utah University and starting at another university to keep pursuing his engineering degree. That kind of forward momentum is what we are aiming for, not just feeling better, but building the structure, discipline, and confidence to follow through when life gets bigger.

At Engage, we focus on helping young adults launch into adulthood with more health, resilience, and readiness. We work to be a secure base while they practice real life, staying connected, building sustainable habits, and learning how to handle challenges without needing a containment model. It is a good reminder that the goal is not to stay in support forever, it is to use it well and then move on to what is next.

Every January, a lot of us set big resolutions. Then life hits and the follow-through drops fast. Some research suggests about 23% of people quit in the first week and roughly 43% have dropped their resolution by the end of January, with only a small percentage sticking with it long-term.

That is why I like this James Clear reminder. Goals are fine, but systems are what keep you moving when motivation fades. At Engage, our focus is helping young adults build systems that support healthy habits, week after week, so the behavior change lasts and the goals start taking care of themselves.

Scrolling for hours then feeling foggy, anxious, or unfocused? "Brain rot" is slang for what constant short-form media can do to attention, mood, and motivation.

Swipe for signs (doomscrolling, zombie scrolling) and simple resets: set screen limits, curate feeds, schedule deep-focus blocks, and plug in with purpose.

Endless scrolling leaving you in a fog? You’re not alone. The 2024 Oxford Word of the Year is “brain rot,” describing the mental fatigue from too much short-form media. But is it a real cognitive concern or just a modern moral panic?

From dopamine loops to attention fragmentation, we’re diving into the science and the skepticism. The key isn’t to unplug, but to engage with purpose. Swipe through for practical tips for digital wellness.

Online, it’s easy to ghost, cancel, and move on. Offline, that same mindset leaves young people terrified to make a mistake, say the wrong thing, or be their awkward, learning self.

Our kids need safe friendships where they can stumble, repair, and still belong.

Walking and reading aren’t the only milestones that matter. Friendship and real connection are, too.

When we overprotect kids offline and underprotect them online, we feed an illusion of connection. It’s time to help teens build relationships through real-life experiences.

Huge shout out to our Engage life coaches for the steady dedication they bring to our young adults every day, especially during the holidays. They show up in the small moments that add up, helping each young adult keep moving toward their individualized goals of Connection, Independence, and Health.

We are grateful for the consistency, patience, and real commitment the life coaches bring to the community when being away from family can feel heavier.

Thank you for being a big part of what makes progress possible here.

This is how the therapists at Engage show up!!

At Engage, our therapists don’t stay behind closed doors. They show up in the real environments where young adults live, struggle, and grow, whether that’s on our weekly adventure therapy days or walking the campus at Southern Utah University for exposure-based work.

This kind of in-the-moment therapy is practical, solution-focused, and grounded in the actual experiences our young adults are navigating.

Most young adults arrive with some degree of treatment fatigue. Sitting in an office and talking about change doesn’t always reach them. Working alongside them, on trails, on skis, on campus, or in their day-to-day routines, creates a different level of engagement.

We’re in a crisis of connection. Young people are more “connected” than ever through screens, yet missing the steady, in-person relationships our brains are wired for.

When real community is absent, anxiety and depression grow. Healing for emerging adults starts with safe, consistent connection — being known, seen, and not alone.

The transition to adulthood is a high-risk period for young adults with mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and trauma. Traditional support often falls away just as they need it most.

Transition treatment bridges this gap, providing proactive, structured support to build life skills, healthcare autonomy, and emotional resilience for a successful, independent life.

When online connection becomes emotional “candy,” young adults return to it for quick soothing—even as it quietly feeds their anxiety. It’s like trying to live on energy drinks: full but undernourished. Parents can help by naming this pattern early and guiding toward real-life connection, skills, and care.
