"This month, I had the opportunity to work with my Dayton VA preceptor, Dr. Rachel Chandra, to review landmark clinical trials from the past five years that have driven new indications for GLP-1 therapies. It was a valuable experience and I enjoyed presenting our findings to pharmacists and fellow students at the OSHP annual meeting." Luke Evans, Pharm.D. Candidate 2026

Reflect on a time you made a meaningful impact on a patient’s life.

"I recently had the opportunity to help a physician develop treatment strategies for a patient on the other side of the world. This 19-year-old patient had a difficult bone infection, and the available treatment options were very limiting. We were ultimately able to save the patient's life, and the patient came to follow Christ in the process. What a win!"

Reflect on a time you made a meaningful impact on a patient’s life:

"I have been blessed to serve several patients, making a meaningful impact on their lives. To care well for both of my grandmothers (at different times) throughout my career was powerful. The most meaningful time, however, was to serve my father as he died from cancer in 2014. I was able to move back into the house I grew up in for two weeks and care both for my father and my mother when my dad was placed on hospice. That time was a sincere joy, but also brutally difficult for me personally."

"Likely the most impactful time for me was when my best friend, Tim's, son Nate -- a teen bull rider -- was stepped on by a huge bull named "Vegas". Tim and his wife, Michelle specifically called me and asked me to pray for this very dire situation since Nate's liver had been split in two by the bull. Nate received nearly 100 units of blood during this emergency. For about 36 straight hours, their family asked me to provide interpretation of the vast volume of medical information provided to them. But... the most precious part was that they, knowing I was strong in my faith, asked me to lead their family in pleading with God for Nate's life. This was one of the most acutely intense medical situations I've experienced, but one where faith in God mattered much more than medical knowledge. Oh, and yes, God spared Nate and the whole ordeal is chronicled in a book written by his mother "Finding Hope on Vegas".

"Bob Malosh helped me to decide at the age of 15 that I wanted to be a pharmacist. He allowed me to shadow him in his Gladwin, MI pharmacy for a couple of years. He has faithfully served every patient entrusted to his care for nearly 40 years."

We are always honored to welcome Mandy Reed, founder of Dear Dinah, and her incredible team! Today, they dedicated their morning to equipping our healthcare students—across multiple disciplines—with vital training on human trafficking in the healthcare setting.

We are deeply grateful for their compassionate vision reminding us that each life is a soul, and that even in the darkest of topics, Christ’s light can shine through our students as they serve their patients. It was also a blessing to have alumna Dr. Rachel Massey ’25 with us on the panel!

Give a shoutout to a pharmacy professional you appreciate and why.

"Matt Kauflin - APPE preceptor and ultimately, residency program director. He's the reason I'm a clinical pharmacist, and he helped ignite my love for teaching. I precept and teach the way I do mostly because of his influence. He knows when to have fun, but also when to be serious and take care of business."

Reflect on a time you made a meaningful impact on a patient’s life OR when a pharmacist made a meaningful impact on your life.

"Recently, I completed a medication history with a patient and his wife at my clinical practice site. He had several high-risk medications and recent transitions of care. I really enjoyed talking with them and it was satisfying to ensure his home medication list was accurate. The next day, I was told by a rounding RN that the patient and his wife brought me up unsolicited as being a highlight of their stay. I don't say this to brag, but rather as a reminder that taking time to not only ensure safe care but also to get to know a patient and their personal story makes a huge difference to them. "
