DO NOT FEED ELECTROLYTES 24/7 !

2 weeks MAX at a time.

Just like humans horses can have too many electrolytes and the horses body starts to rely on them daily. It also means when they actually need them ( massive weather change or excessive sweating or heat ) that they WONT WORK ! Because your horse has adapted to getting them daily

You can however feed salt daily ! I recommend redmond loose salt or Himalayan loose salt

Meet Sonny 🌞a 12 year old gelding who severed every artery but one in his foot. He almost bled out and the vet did not believe he would have enough blood flow to the hoof for it to survive. He severed the front tendons as well.
Sonny is now cleared for a medium work load and his owner is so happy he is alive.
The vet said he believed maganwave was the key to his survival.

EQUINE TOPLINE MUSCLES
To really understand the “topline”-
We must learn how the topline muscles work in order to develop them.

◾️let’s dive into a little anatomy◾️

🔲DEEP SHORT BACK MUSCLES
+located near to & above the spinal column from head to sacrum
+run from vertebrae to vertebrae
+execute small mvmts like stretching, bending and turning
+stabilizes spinal column
+work involuntarily, guided by posture and joint position
+full of highly sensitive proprioceptive nerves that act as mvmt regulators
🚫the long back muscles cannot contract unless the short muscles are stabilized.

🔲LONG BACK MUSCLES
+large, long muscles stretch along the spinal column from sacrum to pelvis and then to occipital
+like a twisted towel they run above the deep short muscles
+they can only contract in their direction of travel
+their job is to lift the head and neck and to stretch to lumbar and thoracic spine
+too much forward tension creates hollowing
🚫the Longissimus Doris is a mvmt muscle NOT created to carry a rider, so development is KEY in avoiding injury or compensation.

EQUINE CORE MUSCLES are also a huge consideration for the topline-as they LIFT the back.
As I study biomechanics and their effects on muscle soreness/comfort-I am starting to wonder how much the “average rider” really knows about how the horses body moves?!
I can speak for myself and say, I learn something new all the time!!

Before upping your horses' calories, strapping some contraption on them and asking them to do particular exercises-assess whether or not the muscle groups are being supported.

Give in hand work more consideration. If our horses can’t carry themselves posturally well-they won’t be able to with the weight of a rider.

Herbal Support for Natural Detoxification in Horses

Horses are naturally excellent at detoxifying thanks to their liver, kidneys, digestive system, and lymphatic system. Herbal support helps these systems function more efficiently, especially during times of stress or seasonal changes. Many herbs that support these systems grow right in pastures and backyards!

Helpful herbs include:
• Milk Thistle – liver protection and cellular support
• Dandelion Root – liver and digestive support
• Nettle – kidney and fluid balance support
• Cleavers & Red Clover – lymphatic movement and skin health
• Burdock Root – liver and skin support
• Slippery Elm & Marshmallow Root – soothing digestive support

Herbal support can be especially helpful during:
- Seasonal coat shedding
- After medications
- Environmental or travel stress
- Skin or inflammatory issues

Important note: Herbs should always be used thoughtfully. Not every horse needs detox support, and quality, proper dosing, and individual health considerations matter.
Supporting the body’s natural systems is all about balance, not forcing change.

You can however feed salt daily ! I recommend redmond loose salt or Himalayan loose salt

With the upcoming weather change I recommend feeding salt and handimash with alfalfa cubes soaked in hot water.
A scoop of handimash and a scoop of alfalfa cubes.

I always feed this soup with weather changes and it has never done me wrong it keeps horses drinking + eating.

Plus the alfalfa is a great stomach acid buffer when they are stuck inside

I also recommend soaking all meals in warm water to ensure they are getting all the extra water Intake you can get
