Back pain in pregnancy gets talked about like it’s just “part of it”… but honestly, it’s often a sign your body needs something different.

Sometimes it’s about baby’s position.
Sometimes it’s muscle imbalance, tightness, or lack of support.
And sometimes your body is just asking for a shift.

The good news? There are ways to work with your body instead of pushing through discomfort.

✨ You don’t have to just suffer through it.

If you’ve been dealing with back pain or want to feel more prepared for labor, reach out. I’d love to help you find what works for your body 🤍

You’re holding your baby for the first time…
and then suddenly—someone is pressing hard on your stomach. OUCH.

If that catches you off guard, you’re not alone.

I recently had a client who was completely surprised by this part—and it pulled her right out of that moment.

Simply put, that pressure is them checking your uterus—making sure it’s tightening like it should and that your bleeding is okay. That part is important.

The fundal massage isn’t always so “fun-dus”… 😅 (okay I had to)

After birth, your uterus needs to contract to help prevent heavy bleeding, and your care team is assessing how well it’s doing that… by pressing on your abdomen (often called a fundal massage).

Most providers and nurses do a great job explaining what they’re doing and being mindful of pressure—but every body is different, and everyone’s pain tolerance is different, so you may experience this differently.

After a hospital birth, it’s common for the fundus to be checked about every 15 minutes during those first couple of hours.

And in that moment…you’re allowed to be part of what’s happening to your body.

You can ask:
“What are you doing?”
“Can you explain that?”
“Is that needed right now?”

Or better yet—have this conversation with your provider before you give birth.

Ask what their typical approach looks like, how they communicate during those first moments, and what you can expect.

Because you deserve:
• clear communication
• consent
• the chance to stay present in those first moments with your baby

Those first moments matter—and you deserve to understand what’s happening while you’re in them.

Are you pregnant or planning for a baby and overwhelmed at how much information is out there?

Are you worried that if you don’t remember absolutely everything, something will go wrong?

This is an extremely common experience but ultimately birth is not a test you have to pass.

Birth doulas are incredibly knowledgeable birth workers whose precise purpose is to help you with informational support.

You can go to them with any questions and desired plans for your birth and they will hold those wishes for you.

You don’t have to hold everything on your own❗️

Did you know that over the course of your labor, you could be working with 2 or 3 or more different midwives, nurses, and/or doctors?

These changes in medical personnel as shifts change can be distressing as you’re in an incredibly intense situation and someone with whom you may not be familiar is now caring closely for you.

Of course, these staff shift changes should be handled with the utmost respect for you and your case, however, having a birth doula by your side ensures that you have at least one steady presence with you throughout your entire labor and delivery.

One person who knows your pregnancy history, your birth plan, and ultimately, YOU.

Today I’ll be attending a Spinning Babies® workshop to deepen my knowledge about how body balance and baby’s positioning can influence labor.

Learning new ways to support comfort, movement, and positioning during pregnancy and birth means I can bring even more helpful tools to the families I work with.

Continuing education is one of the ways I make sure my clients receive thoughtful, informed support every step of the way.

And remember — doula support doesn’t end at birth. I also support families throughout the
postpartum months up to baby’s first year.

If you’d like to learn more about how doula support can help, feel free to reach out.
