🎃 Halloween sensory-friendly tips in recognition of October as Sensory Processing Awareness Month 👻

October is not only about costumes and candy, it’s also Sensory Processing Awareness Month! As our friends at Autism Academy remind us, “This month is all about recognizing and supporting the 1 out of every 20 people with unique sensory needs around the world.” 💙

Here are a few ways to make Halloween more inclusive and fun for everyone:
✨ Offer sensory-friendly treats or toys: consider non-food items like stickers, bubbles, or glow sticks.
👂 Be mindful of sound and light: flashing lights and loud decorations can be overwhelming.
🎭 Respect costume comfort: soft fabrics, tag-free outfits, and flexible dress codes make a big difference.
🏡 Create calm zones: a quiet space for breaks helps reduce sensory overload.
🎃 Use visual schedules: pictures or step-by-step plans can help children know what to expect.
