It is finally spring and the flowers are blooming in NC ๐ธ
Hola a todos and happy Wednesday- thereโs quite a few new faces around so I think Iโm overdue for a reintroduction of sorts. ๐ฌ
First things first, thank you for following along in my journey through dental school. I hope you find value in the things about my life I share, and that thereโs some inspiration to take away for someone somewhere.
If you are still reading, here is a little more about me and why I do this. I was born and raised in La Habana, Cuba. At the age of fourteen my family migrated to Miami as political refugees. We came with no more than a dream, hope, our language, our culture, our experiences, and the clothes we had on.
At my core I am Cuban, Latina, a child immigrant, a daughter, a sister... These past few years have made me realize that I am also a giver, compassionate, driven, an advocate for my people, resilient as hell, and a woman with a vision. Moving to North Carolina made me realize how much I had overcome. It felt like I had gotten to this point in my life seamlessly, because the years tend to blur things together. Living in this new environment opened my eyes to how many struggles minority students trying to make it in this education system face, especially those pursuing doctoral programs. It also made it even more clear why we need more of us in these spaces, especially in health care.
I do this because I want to share my struggles, to share the things Iโve learned and connect with others who are passionate about oral health as well as overcoming disparities in minority communities.
Thank you for taking part in this journey of mine. Please interact with me if you have questions or comments. Iโd love to chat and get to know you better!
