No parent should ever have to learn the vocabulary of childhood cancer — but in February 2025, I did.
My beautiful, outgoing, loving, sweet, innocent 6-year-old daughter was suddenly fighting for her life after being diagnosed with Stage 4 Burkitt’s Lymphoma — a rare, brutally fast-growing cancer that doesn’t wait, doesn’t slow down, and doesn’t care how small its victims are.
What followed were 5 long months in the hospital, with only 8 days where we were able to be home together as a family. My daughter spent day after day confined to four walls, hooked to aggressive medications that were strong enough to kill rapidly dividing cancer cells — but harsh enough to tear down her tiny body in the process.
She missed precious moments with her sister. She missed normal childhood joys. She fought through sickness, exhaustion, fear, and pain that no child should ever be familiar with.
Yet she survived.
Because children fighting cancer are true heroes — stronger than we give them credit for, braver than most adults I’ve ever met. I’ve heard the cries of scared kids, seen the loneliness in their eyes, and watched them take on chemo with a courage that breaks your heart and inspires you at the same time.
And this is why taking action against pediatric cancer matters.
Because kids deserve more than outdated treatments.
Because families deserve hope.
Because no child should spend their childhood battling for another chance at life.
Awareness saves lives. Research saves lives. Support saves lives.
Our children deserve nothing less.
Please if you have the free time this, please, please, please, submit a form to help kids and families battling the fight of cancer.
Time Sensitive! Tonight and tomorrow, we have a critical opportunity to help save the lives of children with cancer.
On Monday, Dec. 1, the House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on the Mikaela Naylon Give Kids a Chance Act. Your voice can make all the difference.
This legislation is named in honor of Mikaela Naylon, a brave osteosarcoma warrior who traveled to Washington D.C. to advocate for this very bill just months before she passed away. Mikaela wanted to make a difference for other children fighting cancer, and now we have the chance to help fulfill her wish.
Here's how you can help:
Please take a moment to contact your House Representative and urge them to vote YES on the Mikaela Naylon Give Kids a Chance Act. It only takes a few seconds, and your message will show Congress that we stand with children with cancer.
