Financial scams targeting seniors are rampant, sophisticated, and costly. Scammers prey on trust and urgency, often pretending to be trusted authorities or family members in crisis (like the Grandparent Scam).
Top Red Flags to Watch For
🚩Imposter Calls: Someone claiming to be from the IRS, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, a bank, a medical insurance company, or a tech company asking for personal information, login details, or immediate payment. They will often use threats or strong-arm tactics.
🚩Urgent Money Requests: Any immediate, unexpected demand for money for bail, taxes, a utility bill, or a "bank hack."
🚩Unusual Payment Demands: Being asked to pay with gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency (Bitcoin ATMs)—these methods are almost impossible to trace.
✨The Golden Rule for Protection
NEVER rush. PAUSE, hang up, and call a trusted family member or the agency/bank/insurance company back using a known, verified phone number (found on a legitimate statement or their official website, not the number they gave you).
Protect yourself and those you love!
