Kunzite is a pink-to-lilac gem variety of the mineral Spodumene, a lithium aluminum inosilicate (LiAl(SiO3)2). Its color is caused by trace amounts of manganese (Mn3+) and is often subject to fading upon exposure to intense light or heat, a characteristic known as being tenebrescent or light-sensitive.
