Some of the most important health conversations happen when we create space for real questions- no judgment, just truth.

Next Monday I'm sitting on a panel with some incredible public health physicians and nurses from across our region to talk about something that matters deeply to our community: childhood vaccinations.

$75 at CVS. $0.82 at Publix. Same. Exact. Medication.🤯

I went to pick up Amlodipine - a blood pressure medication that's been generic for YEARS - and CVS to charge me $75 just because it's a new year with new insurance.

I moved it to Publix. 82 cents!!!!

This is why I always tell my patients the prescription is just a small part of my job in taking care of you. 💜

So many people skip doses or stop taking their medications altogether because they think they can't afford them - and nobody told them they had options.

✅️ Check a different pharmacy.
✅️ Ask about free medication list.
✅️ Look up any coupons like GoodRx before you pay for anything at the counter.

Your health should not depend on which pharmacy is on your corner.

I'm Dr. Emily - family physician, practice owner, and your reminder that an informed patient is a protected patient.✊🏽

Share this with your network and drop a 💊 if this was surprising.

I hear this from patients constantly. 😔

"I'm exhausted but I can't sleep. I'm doing everything right but I can't lose weight. I feel anxious for no reason. I just don't feel like myself."

Sound familiar? This isn't just stress — this is what elevated cortisol can do to your body. And during perimenopause, your cortisol regulation is already being tested in ways most women were never warned about.

In Part 4 of the perimenopause series, I'm breaking down the real symptoms of elevated cortisol in women — because too many of us are walking around with answers hiding in our own biology.

Your body isn't betraying you. It's communicating. 💜

There is a lot going on in the world....however some families have alot going on.

Every baby deserves a healthy start. 💜

Today is World Birth Defects Day — a reminder that prenatal care, proper nutrition, and access to healthcare can make a meaningful difference in pregnancy outcomes.

Supporting healthy pregnancies is one of the ways we build healthier families and stronger communities.

2026 is here. Do you KNOW what your insurance covers?

Every year your benefits change deductibles reset, copays get adjusted and medications get reclassified.

Most people don't realize it until they try to see their doctor or get a prescription filled.

Before you schedule appointments this year, take 10 minutes to review the following:
✅️ Your deductible (individual + family)
✅️ Preventive vs. Diagnostic coverage
✅️ In network changes
✅️ Prior Auth requirements

As a primary care physician I see the financial stress that comes from not knowing your benefits. Knowing your coverage is part of protecting your health.

Ladies!!!!

As estrogen declines, cortisol doesn’t just “stress you out” — it has a bigger impact on your body than it used to.

Elevated cortisol during menopause can contribute to:
• persistent abdominal weight gain
• worsening insulin resistance
• poor sleep quality
• increased anxiety or irritability
• higher cardiovascular risk

In Part 3 of the Perimenopause Series, we’re breaking down:
✔️ why cortisol hits harder after estrogen declines
✔️ how menopause changes your stress response
✔️ what this means for your long-term health

➡️ Comment below: What menopause symptoms do you want explained next?

This isn’t about willpower.
It’s about physiology.

Almost missed it!!!

Today we celebrate National Black Women Physicians Day.✨️

As a Black woman physician, this work is deeply personal.

It’s about representation, advocacy, and caring for communities that have too often been overlooked.

I’m honored to stand in this legacy—past, present, and future—and to serve with excellence, compassion, and purpose every single day.

To my sisters in medicine: we belong here. We’ve always belonged here.

Cancer touches nearly every family in some way-- through diagnosis, caregiving, survivorship or loss. Today is a reminder of the importance of prevention, early detection, equitable access to care and compassion throughout the journey.💜

As a primary care physician, I believe so much of our power lies in the everyday moments: routine screenings, listening closely, addressing barriers and meeting people where they are.

As a daughter of a previous colon cancer survivor and sister to a breast cancer survivor, my calling is quite personal. Talk to your family, share your medical history or your family's history. This is the first step of prevention. 🏥

Today we honor survivors, remember those we've lost and recommit to doing better.
