Picking out your bras for Breastfeeding is very important. It needs to provide adequate support for your breast but not be too loose or too tight. Good cotton support is recommended not underwires. Underwires can cause undo pressure and not allow the lymph to drain properly. This can cause plugged ducts.

Also, Baby Carriers can apply external pressure on the breasts. Make sure that fits comfortably too. It is just a good idea to massage your breasts for a minute or two several times a day to prevent those annoying plugged ducts. Comfort is the key!

Breastfeeding could be a choice but should be a responsibility. It is our job in society to teach young women that breasts are not just a body part. They have a vital role in life. Once pregnant, the breasts produce nutrient-rich milk and provide antibodies that help fight viruses and bacteria. This mother's milk is uniquely made by our bodies and changes daily to meet the Baby's needs.

We must make education enjoyable, positive, and fun in order to engage everyone. Breast milk is free, always available, and at the correct temperature for feeding Baby. Breast Milk is the healthiest first food for our Babies worldwide. Happy World Breastfeeding Week from Momma Lynn at Mother Knows Breast!

At the time of conception, the mother is introduced to a whole new world. She becomes a life-giver and a caretaker. There are so many emotions coursing through her body, and so much to learn. I recommend a prenatal breastfeeding class. Even if a woman is not sure if she wants to breastfeed her baby, she should attend a breastfeeding class to empower herself. It is such a healthy option, not only for the baby but for mom too.

Breastfeeding helps a new mother's uterus to contract normally, reducing the amount of blood loss and helping mother recover sooner after giving birth. It also helps to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer.

Research has shown a relationship between the length of breastfeeding - the longer you breastfeed (the total months spent breastfeeding) the lower the risk of developing breast cancer. This is certainly a plus for breastfeeding.

Is your Baby sick? In most cases breastfeeding can be continued and helps your baby get better faster.

Breastfeed whenever your baby wants to nurse. If your baby has a stuffy nose, clean out your baby’s nose gently or use salt water nose drops just before nursing. Hold your baby upright during breastfeeding.

When you stop Breastfeeding, this is called "weaning." It is up to You and Baby to decide when the time is right unless medically indicated.

If medical weaning is necessary, talk to a Lactation Consultant to find the right way to go about it. You don't want a problem with engorgement, plugged ducts, and mastitis.

Gradual weaning is recommended and allows Baby to gently adjust to a new feeding relationship.

You need to determine if Baby can tolerate formula or complementary foods. Start with the feeding where your milk supply is lowest or Baby is most easily distracted. Use your stored breast milk via a bottle or cup and talk to your Pediatrician for recommendations on what formula to give. You want to ensure Baby can tolerate the formula before your breastmilk is depleted. Cuddle, play, and hold Baby more at this time. Nursing Baby at bedtime may be Baby's favorite nursing and the one to save for last.

Remember that regular emptying of the breast can help reduce the chance of plugged ducts.

Babies ineffective suckling may be a result of a Mother's insufficient milk supply. As Mom's milk supply increases, the quality of the Baby's suckle usually improves.
