I'm back in person! πŸ§šπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

This month, I'm leading a 4-week powerful flow series grounded in the elements: earth, water, fire, and air. We'll be challenging ourselves to a flowing, spicy practice that involves both moving quickly and keeping our bodies in stillness while moving our breath.

Each class will focus on a different element and type of pose: arm balances, twists, backbends, and inversions.

Class is Tuesdays in February from 5:45-6:45pm EST. It's in person and online, and recordings are available if you can't make it live! DM for details!!

You can register on beyogacollective.punchpass.com β™₯️ See you on the mat!

I've been reading the book Golden lately (highly recommend!), but one of the things I thought they might be slightly off about is their limited view of "meditation."

TBH I don't often use this word in class unless I'm providing an actual guided meditation - I often use terms like centering or mindfulness instead, because meditation is often perceived as this lofty thing that monks and gurus do. I don't want it to feel religious or beyond reach. I don't want meditation to fall between the narrowly defined lines of "seated" and "quiet."

So this is one person's opinion - take it or leave it - but I find weeding my garden about as therapeutic as setting a timer and plonking myself down with my eyes closed. I think of meditation not as a seated passivity, but as an active paying attention to something. Sometimes that "something" is my body. A lot of times, it's the critters I find in the dirt and the smell of the earth. Are mindfulness and meditation really all that different?? Can somebody tell the authors of this book that for me??

Whatever you call it, virtual class is Thursday 9:45am EST. We'll be doing some of it. And some of it with movement. And some of it with our breath. Wherever you are, you can join me. Register via .collective

Hihi πŸ‘‹πŸ» do you miss practicing with me? fear not, I'm teaching virtually. (actually, I do this every week. I'm just posting about it today!)

You can join me Wednesday 7am EST for a sweet "mindful morning" practice. 45 minutes, gentle movement, breathwork, and meditation. Tomorrow we're working with padma mudra (lotus mudra, shown above) and tapping into that heartspace.

Thursdays I teach Align & Flow at 9:45am EST. 60 minutes, alignment-based, balancing strength and stability. Each week has a different theme!

Get the zoom links via .collective 😘 DM me with questions! πŸ’™

There are a lot of photos of yogis out there, and to be honest, they mostly look like me. Thin, white-skinned, young, female. A lot of those women are doing complicated poses, showing off their flexibility and strength and the amazing capabilities of the human body.

But not all bodies can do that. To be honest, most people who step into my yoga classes are over the age of 50 (they aren't on Instagram lol). When I say "grab your props" at the beginning of class, these students have as much as most studios beside their mat. I give a variety of options for almost every pose, because I never want to assume that anyone in my class can do every pose the same way. A lot of these variations involve props.

Props are amazing. They make inaccessible poses possible. Props are part of the reason you can do yoga at any age. Props are essential for a well-rounded yoga practice late into your 3rd trimester. They help those with tight backs, injured hamstrings, and chronic stress. I am an ardent supporter of props. I will be their champion!

Who cares how you look in a pose - let's start caring about how we feel. You with me?

Hi everyone!

There are a lot of new faces on here and I figured it was time to introduce myself officially.

I'm Stephanie (Or Steph!) and my pronouns are she/her. I'm an alignment-based and perinatal yoga teacher (that's pre and post-natal certification because the 4th trimester is a real thing).

I got into yoga while on a fellowship in Macau post-graduation. I couldn't find any adult dance classes, so yoga seemed like a good way to move! I wasn't wrong. πŸ˜‰

Some facts (you can decide how "fun" they are):

🧠 I am a huge nerd and information sponge. Love to read, love to write, love to share knowledge.

πŸ’» I work at .flow.studio and when I'm not teaching

πŸŒ„πŸŒ• I'm a Capricorn sun/rising and a Cancer moon - loyal to a fault with a lot of emotions.

🍜 I love to feed people!!!!!

πŸ‡«πŸ‡· I have a double degree in English and French.

πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ My favorite yoga classes to teach are slow (prenatal) flows and breathwork workshops.

πŸ’™ I teach yoga at and .flow.studio in addition to leading my own virtual classes.

I'm grateful to all of my teachers and for giving me such an amazing foundation on which to build my practice and teaching ( .sarah .inc and - give them a follow!).

Also, I love this photo because it features my puppy Zelda who is 2 but will always be a puppy. She is my baby.

Exciting news - Tidepool has a newsletter now! This way I can share all my class links, blog posts, and updates in one place. (With a real newsletter, you can also opt in and opt out without any hard feelings πŸ˜…)

I'm still figuring out the best format to organize everything (do I send one mega-email each week? Segment out the prenatal vs general audiences? Do both?) so it's all part of the big adventure. You can join me on this adventure! It's gonna be a fun time - we'll definitely learn a lot together.

Last Monday was the last time I'll be teaching in-person at (at least for a while). After coming back from Macau, I had no idea where I would practice yoga. Luckily, my apartment was a block away from Be, and they had 6am classes (because time after work was no guarantee). I spent so many mornings dragging myself out of bed and plopping on my mat before the sun was up. My reward for these early morning classes was watching the sky lighten as my body warmed up and eventually coming out to the sunrise.

I have long since moved out of that apartment, and I won't be going back to that physical space as the doors are closing. But Be Yoga is still online, so hit me up for a virtual class!

Schedule Week of 1/17/21
β˜€οΈ Sunday 2pm - virtual karma class to benefit The Bulb, a nonprofit that brings fresh produce to food insecure communities πŸ’™
β˜€οΈ Sunday 5:45pm - masked in person slow flow .flow.studio

β˜€οΈ Monday 4pm - virtual slow flow
β˜€οΈ Tuesday 5:15pm - virtual all-levels slow flow (DM for link)
β˜€οΈWednesday 10am - virtual slow flow

To register for Be Yoga and Ebb & Flow classes: find them on the app or register online. You can sign up for the Tuesday slow flow on or DM me your email address. Prenatal sign-ups, DM me your email address! Hope to see your lovely faces this week 😘

Sometimes I get so caught up in things and then I spot my dog sunbathing wherever the light is currently hitting the carpet, little dust motes fluttering around her, captured by the sun streaming in warming up her fur in the depths of winter. So naturally I curl up next to her. Some days, that is my yoga.

Other days when I'm actually on my mat, she decides that underneath me is the place to be, and she's not moving. (Spoiled puppy!) I'm not the sun but I lead enough sun salutations and sundial poses she must think I'm a star too 🀩

Pets welcome in my (virtual) classes this week and every week!
