Happy National PA Day! 🎉
Today marks the start of National PA Week, a time to celebrate the physician assistant profession and recognize the vital role PAs play in healthcare. This date holds special significance: the first class of Physician Assistants graduated from Duke University on this day in 1967. It’s also the birthday of the profession’s founder, Dr. Eugene A. Stead Jr. PAs are highly trained medical professionals who practice in a wide range of settings. This week, we honor their skill, compassion, and the essential care they provide to our communities.

David G. Welton, MD, Society – This cherished bi-annual tradition began in August 1980, when Dr. David G. Welton invited eight colleagues to lunch at the Charlotte Country Club. Over the years, the guest list grew, with Dr. Welton treating attendees to his piano performances and, later, invited guest speakers. After his passing in 1995, the luncheons continued in his honor and are now held each April and September. MCMS Emeritus members gather to reconnect with former partners and colleagues, share memories, and stay current on advancements in medicine.
