To Extend our yesterday conversation, foods with carbs on high Glycemic Index(GI) helps increasing blood glucose levels, thus fueling your body for a better workout. Harvard has listed more than 60 foods with their GI values.

Be careful on usage of foods with high Glycemic Index if you are diabetic, as you may want to choose low Glycemic Index foods.

Talk to your nutritionist on what intake is good for you between low-high GI carbs based on your needs.

Be focused to know what you are eating, and drinking especially you are active in workouts or sports.

1. Eat high Glycemic Index carbs before and/or after exercise to replenish energy stores.
2. As constant breakdown of muscle tissue break down and repair happens, dietary intake of protein is must.
3. Be sure not to leave eating good fats.
4. More importantly hydration with electrolytes is must.

Balanced intake of above all helps endurance, and sustaining energy to be fit to perform.
Intake quantities vary by age, weight, type of work out. So, you should know what is good for you.

Had an interesting conversation with my copassenger on my flight to Charlotte yesterday who is lot into sports and struggling to have energy especially in summer. It is so important to look at what is needed before, during and after the activity, one has to look at how to hydrate, energize and recharge the body due to lot of wear and tear during the activity.
