It’s August! That means it’s the perfect time to audit your career.

To audit your career effectively, it’s essential to ask yourself some tough yet revealing questions.

Here’s a list to guide you:

1. What are my core values? Do they align with the work I’m currently doing?

2. What accomplishments am I most proud of?

3. What skills do I enjoy using the most?

4. Where do I see myself in 3 years? What steps am I currently taking to reach that vision?

5. Am I feeling challenged and fulfilled?

6. What feedback have I received from supervisors and peers?

7. Am I networking and cultivating relationships?

8. What opportunities for professional development am I currently pursuing?

9. Should I be making more money?

10. Am I advocating for myself?

Every organization has a “Promotion Process”.

1. Research how promotions are determined.
2. Understand the criteria.

You’re not too expensive. You simply need to make sure your salary aligns with the career seat you occupy.

The Hidden Cost of “Yes”

Saying “yes” to every extra project feels like proving yourself—but it can cost you.

Unpaid labor, burnout, and stalled promotions are the silent career killers.

What are you accepting in your role that you no longer want to tolerate?

Remember, control isn’t just about what you do—it’s about what you say no to.

Are you actually in control of your career?

Many women aren’t—and it shows.

Overwork without recognition.

Stretch roles without raises. Clarity lost in the shuffle.

The truth? If you don’t stop and audit where you are, you’ll keep settling for less than you deserve.

This August, I’m inviting you to start asking the hard questions—and take ownership of your career.

Taken From ESPN

“As WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert awarded Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier the 2025 All-Star Game MVP trophy, chants of "pay them!" rained down from the sold-out crowd of over 16,000 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The fans echoed the message players sent during warmups Saturday night when they wore black shirts that read "Pay Us What You Owe Us."

The collective demonstration occurred two days after more than 40 players met with the league in the latest round of collective bargaining agreement negotiations. The players didn't think the meeting produced enough progress with a late October deadline looming.”

As you are aware, I like this kind of carrying on. Seeing these women stop sitting on their ask and collectively move their cause forward makes my bald-headed day‼️

Working Twice As Hard?

No thank you. I do not subscribe.

Someone posted about this and I responded as follows:

“I made the conscious choice to never work twice as hard, although I’ve heard it for years. This is my default wiring for multiple reasons:

(1) I refuse to work twice as hard for one check, especially when every employee isn’t working twice as hard. If there’s a disconnect between my output and my compensation, I’m responsible for ensuring that level of alignment, which could actually be an opportunity to advocate for myself.

(2) Working twice as hard to build someone else’s dream isn’t my definition of success, it’s theirs This doesn’t mean I don’t do great work or I don’t perform well. I do, I have, and strive to leave a seat better off than it was before I occupied it. My performance is never the issue, but an inability to manage my expectations and the expectations of others can become one if I’m not careful.

(3) If the downside of not working twice as hard is limited career advancement, my time in the organization then becomes limited. I go where I’m celebrated, compensated, and can manage my career in ways that work for me.”

Women are often overqualified and under promoted. Please don’t become one of them.

Indeed economists are discussing stagflation and when this happens, 2 things are for certain:

(1) companies are cautious.
(2) your salary is squeezed.

In other words, your current salary doesn’t allow you to stretch during periods of stagflation.
