Saw this the other day and it resonates so much with the deeper work I am doing now with people. Somatic work on a nervous system and fascia level.

The body remembers what we do not. It remembers each hurt, each joy, each fear, each trauma. And it wants to share these stories. Absolutely amazing work coming from listening to what the body has to share…it’s innermost secrets and truths. Truths that manifest as chronic illness, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, rage, burnout and exhaustion. Until we listen to the stories.

Healing feels like your whole life is coming apart, like you are untethered, and alone. You aren’t doing it wrong. You have to do this journey alone, in the sense that no one can do with for you, and that you are the only one feeling all the healing, the grief, the anger, and the panic of change. Of letting go of old versions of yourself. You are literally rewiring your brain.

Keep going! I promise it’s beautiful, safe, and filled with so much wholeness and joy on the other side. You can’t have that, without the journey along the way.

🌟 Generational healing 🌟

With every generation of healing, there is a thawing out, emotionally. An awakening to a change in functioning for what is truly considered emotionally healthy and safe. There is always an abundance of grief and second guessing in that process. Grief of what wasn’t and grief of what is misunderstood.

When flight, fight, and fawn don’t work, our body goes into freeze mode. Essentially shutdown, quiet, and small until the “threat” goes away.
Here’s a heartfelt reminder to listen to your body. It is always telling you how it is feeling and what it is feeling. In order to release old trauma patterns, you need to feel what your nervous system is feeling and release it (to complete the loop so that your body knows you are safe).

Fight response: feeling agitated, irritable, defensive—start air punching, silent or loud scream, punch a pillow, air kick. You physically need to act out that feeling
Flight response: go for a walk, run, move your body really quickly. You physically need your body to feel like you are escaping.
Freeze Response: non-dominant, dominant body comfort. Tap your right should with your left hand (if you are right handed).

For all of these, the vagus nerve is cuing messages that you aren’t safe. Vagus nerve exercises can be incredibly helpful to shift you back into emotional safety.

Changing generational patterns is possible….it’s hard work and it can feel very lonely and overwhelming, but it’s possible. And guess what, you deserve it. You deserve to feel calm and safe and not feeling like you are constantly living in survival mode. And your kids deserve it too. Help offload some of that generational trauma so that they don’t have to work on those wounds as an adult.
And an added bonus, it makes parenting easier. It makes us less reactive. It makes us more understanding and empathetic. It helps us connect with our kids instead of seeing them as defiant and disrespectful, and asking things of them that aren’t fair: to be perfect, to never make mistakes, to always listen and be regulated.

Attachment wounds can sneak up on us. You deserve to grow, for you and for your babies.

Big emotions from little kids is hard and can be very exhausting. But ultimately, the goal is to teach our kids to be emotionally in-tune with themselves and able to healthily express themselves. “Stop crying” teaches emotional repression and “bad feelings”. Here are some ways to reinforce healthy emotional expression.

More work now, but it comes with a HUGE reward.
