From sparking “serendipitous collisions” between academic, industry, and executive partners to building experiences shaped by her walk‑on mentality, Kate helps cultivate a district that’s evolving in real time.

The Pearl welcomed the Charlotte community and over 30 local artists for an incredible evening at Community Threads, a public art exhibit presented by ArtPop Street Gallery in partnership with Connect Labs Charlotte.

This inspiring showcase brought together vibrant creativity and powerful storytelling from across our community—all within the innovative walls of The Pearl.

Talented local artists filled the space with works that explore human health, nature, beauty and the endless possibilities of imagination. Each creative piece offers a unique perspective on how art can spark optimism and shape the way we see the world around us.

We are proud to create spaces that drive community, innovation and collaboration—not only in science and medicine, but also in art.

A heartfelt thank‑you to ArtPop and Wexford for partnering with us to bring such an uplifting and meaningful experience to The Pearl.

We were delighted to host leaders from Baxter for a visit to our Charlotte, NC campus today, including a tour led by Dr. Rasu Shrestha and Scott Bond.

At the Metro Gala, Atrium Health presented the Beyond the Label Fashion Show, the culmination of a months-long collaboration between juniors and seniors from Hawthorne Academy of Health Sciences, Metro School students and partners across education, health care and design.

Students worked alongside physical and occupational therapists from Atrium Health Carolinas Rehabilitation, design mentors from The DoGooders and adaptive fashion experts from LSAdaptive to create custom garments designed for real bodies, real needs and real lives.

What unfolded wasn’t just a fashion show; it was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when empathy, creativity and STEM education come together. There was not a dry eye in the room.

Moments like this reflect the power of collaboration at The Pearl, bringing together education, health care and creativity to spark ideas that make a lasting impact in our community.

As associate dean for pre-clerkship education, Dr. Michele Birch leads a forward-thinking, problem-based learning curriculum at our Charlotte campus, giving students early clinical experiences and a strong foundation for modern medicine. From connecting the foundational sciences to real patient cases, she is helping shape how tomorrow’s physicians are trained and preparing students for the realities of modern medicine.

As we wrap up an unforgettable year at The Pearl, we’re reflecting on just how far we’ve come. ✨

From opening our doors and welcoming the Charlotte community, to hosting global health and technology leaders from around the world, this year marked the beginning of something truly special.

We proudly sat our first class at Wake Forest University School of Medicine’s Charlotte campus, a major milestone in shaping the future of medical education and innovation.

We also welcomed students from Carolinas College of Health Sciences into a new, immersive classroom setting, creating fresh opportunities for learning, collaboration and discovery.

Another defining moment this year was the opening of IRCAD North America, bringing world-class surgical training and global expertise to Charlotte and further positioning the city as a destination for advanced care and innovation.

Charlotte has officially stepped onto the global stage in health care innovation—and we’re proud to help lead the way.

This is more than a development. It’s a bold vision coming to life—for Charlotte, for patients and for the world. And we’re just getting started.
