Client Spotlight: Meet Jamaal! This North Carolina native is a proud Abound client and student in the 💜Jamaal says the best part of college is “being with friends and supports.” College has helped him grow by becoming more reliable and learning new cooking skills — and this year, he even made memories as Homecoming Runner-Up!

Looking ahead, Jamaal dreams of driving a 1971 Chevelle and living independently. With help from his team, he's building confidence and discovering what he’s capable of achieving.

When he's not in class or running around campus, you can find Jamaal practicing his dance and rapping skills!

We are grateful to support individuals like Jamaal and the WCU UP Program!

When Becky was living at home with her mom, grief made it hard for them to celebrate the holidays. This year, that changed. . Becky celebrated the holidays with her Life Sharing family, surrounded by warmth, traditions, and new memories. She also visited her mom and shared that holiday cheer with her, helping them gently reconnect with traditions they had put on hold. Life Sharing can truly improve a person’s life by creating new reasons to smile while honoring the relationships that matter most. Learn more here: https://www.aboundhealth.com/pennsylvania-services

In honor of Black History Month, Abound Health is celebrating the voices and leaders who inspire progress every day — starting with our very own Olivia Fredrick.
Olivia lives by the wisdom of Maya Angelou, who said, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better,” and the timeless message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who reminded us that “The time is always right to do what is right.”
Beyond her incredible work, Olivia brings energy and heart to everything she does. Fun fact — she’s the youngest (and only girl!) of five siblings, a dedicated Tar Heel fan, and once competed at the national level in public speaking.
We’re grateful for Olivia’s example of passion, integrity, and growth — she reminds us every day what it means to lead with purpose.

When David Smith joined Abound as a Direct Support Professional, he brought patience, kindness, and a quiet determination to make a difference. “I was looking for a job that had a meaningful impact on people’s lives,” he shared — and from day one, that purpose guided his path.
His curiosity soon opened new doors — from recruiting to desktop support, and eventually to software engineering. Each step reflected his drive to learn and grow. “People will notice your commitment and drive,” he says. “Let others know your goals and show them the work you put into achieving them.”
Today, as a Software Engineer, David continues to approach every challenge with the same caring spirit that first brought him here. His journey reminds us that growth happens when we follow our curiosity and lead with care.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King on his annual day of service. For us this day reminds us of our commitment to others and the importance of social equality. However you celebrate, we hope your day is full of light.

People-centered care means seeing the whole person, not just a diagnosis. That’s why Abound Health offers Specialized Consultative Services (SCS).

This month, we’re highlighting Katie and Annie, two behavior analysts on our SCS team who use Applied Behavior Analysis and skill-building supports to help people with I/DD grow in independence, communication, and everyday living skills. By working closely with families and caregivers, they create simple, practical strategies that fit each person’s goals and daily life.

Compassion in action: A big win for our community! đź’™

NC Governor Josh Stein has reversed the Medicaid rate cuts that went into effect this fall. This is a major victory for disability services and the people that depend on them.

To every DSP, family, and advocate who spoke up — thank you. Your voices turned compassion into action and helped make this possible.

We’ll keep fighting for fair pay, strong services, and dignity for all.
