I love being back in the kitchen making lip balms, especially for a good cause. Thank you to everyone that has already placed an order. So far, food banks helping our neighbors will receive $750 and hopefully more.

I have been pretty quiet the last week due to a little bump in the road. A shipment of lip balms tubes was delayed and appears to be lost. I was worried that I would be able to fill your orders. So, over the weekend, I place a rush order that should arrive tomorrow. All orders will be ready to go in time to meet the USPS deadline of 12/18.

Surprise! We are back with lip balms for a limited time charity sale. I know a lot of people are struggling to put food on their tables during these challenging times and I want to help.

Announcement: Over the past few weeks, I have taken the opportunity to deeply reflect on my personal and business objectives. While Pure Stella has brought me so much joy in the last five years, all good things must come to an end.

When I started Pure Stella, I wanted to help others by filling a gap in the skin care industry. Thankfully there are now many other natural options on the market and I want to look for other ways to help my community. I don't know exactly what my next steps are yet, but I look forward to this year of redirection.

There is no way I can put into words what the last 5+ years have meant to me. Thank you to everyone that has been a part of building this business. Whether you are a follower, regular customer, friend, fellow maker, or stockist, I will miss connecting with you, but this is the best decision for my family and me.

Have you checked the ingredient list on your favorite lip balm? You might be surprised by what you find.

A lot of lip balms contain flavors and sweeteners, even the so-called “natural” ones. These additives make you want to lick your lips, causing further dryness and can even cause irritation.

We all want our personal care products to smell good, but at what cost? When looking for healthier alternatives, "fragrance" is definitely one of the ingredients we try to avoid in our home.

"Fragrance" is a vague term that can be used on an ingredient list to hide any number of natural or synthetic ingredients. A loophole in FDA regulations allows for ingredients deemed to be a “trade secret” or “masking” (covering an undesirable scent) to either be generically listed as “fragrance” or left off the list altogether. It is no wonder that "fragrance" is a top allergen in personal care products. The 100s of ingredients hidden by this loophole have been known to trigger asthma, dermatitis, and have potential reproductive system impacts.

When I first began developing products to soothe my daughter’s eczema, I knew "fragrance" was one of the ingredients that would never be on my ingredient list. Any “scent” in our products is either the natural scent of the ingredients, like the chocolate scent of cocoa butter, or essential oils.

It can be hard to find personal care products that do not contain the term fragrance. If you do buy a product with this term, make sure it comes from a company you can trust. Do you try to avoid "fragrance" in your personal care products?
