Grier's Gallery is in memory of Grier Martin Christenbury. Grier was 9 years old when he (we) lost his battle to neuroblastoma cancer on November 26, 2013. Grier's dimples that accompanied his smile, his effervescent energy and love of soccer, fishing, legos and creating art were attributes we will always hold close to our hearts. He loved watching sports (especially his Clemson Tigers) hence Grier's favorite color orange and why we incorporate the orange heart. The goal is to create a safe place for children who are suffering from childhood illness to create art. This is their time to explore, play, think, dwell, escape and create. Our children will have opportunities monthly to dive into art. Grier's Gallery believes strongly in promoting healing, transforming the hospital experience and bringing a bit of joy to our patients and families. Visiting artists will host small workshops offering jewelry design, collage design, sculpting, community painting and creative writing. Self expression is power. Our intent for GG is to
Instill long-term appreciation for the arts. Normalize the hospital environment and facilitate relief for patients and families by providing entertaining, recreational, and educational art experiences
Provide opportunities for artists, musicians, volunteers, and students from the community to share their gifts and talents in the hospital. It's almost been a year since we've lost our Grier Christenbury and we are opening this gallery, Grier's Gallery to high five his spirit, his legacy and the ongoing passion to comfort children and parents throughout their battle in kicking pediatric cancer to the curb!
