KMG Wellness KMG Wellness is a community of like minded people who want to be healthy and aim to do so with the proper nutrition, fitness & wellness Welcome to KMG Wellness!

I am a Mom to 2 girls, wife to the most patient man, Registered Dietitian, runner/triathlete, Young Living oil enthusiast and distributor. I am all about keeping things simple. The food we eat, the recipes I make, and my life (well, as simple as I can make it with 2 girls). KMG Wellness to me embodies all of my passions – Nutrition, Fitness and Wellness. Nutrition: It is simple really. Well it can be, if we let it be. I believe that we have gotten so far away from what we know about nutrition. It is my constant goal when I talk to people about food, that I help them understand that food in it’s basic form is delicious and easy to prepare. Our food habits and beliefs are so complex – and it is a constant learning process for all of us navigating the waters. Fitness: Is just me. I love to work out, I love to help others see their potential and I really do love to compete. Suffering doesn’t bother me – that helps a lot in races and workouts ;-)

Wellness: There is so much involved in that word. While I know that Essential Oils help our wellness, I also believe that there are many other components to a well life. Mind/Body Balance, Stress, Organization, Sleep. I will tackle a lot of these as I continue to learn how to achieve this balance myself.

Today was the day that the Boston Marathon was supposed to be run. It seemed like a big goal a few months ago, but as with everything else, it fell off the calendar. I wrote some (maybe more than some 😉 ) thoughts about this whole stay at home thing and life without immediate/time defined goals. Take a look!

The Twilight Zone, Groundhog Day, Quarantine Day # ____ ....call it what you will, but there is no denying that this is just a weird place that we are in. I woke up this morning, much as I have done every morning and wondered what day it was. I have a hard time keeping track of the days lately - don...

Hello? Is anyone there? Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here! I thought I would share our dinner story from tonight... You win some, you lose some, right? Most of the time I have wins. And that isn’t a brag. That’s because I don’t go out of the box very often. That box meaning our rotation of favorites. I know exactly what these girls like and don’t like, and while it’s a pretty good variety, we definitely could use
some new ideas. Well last night I switched it up and made a new chicken stew with dumplings. A hit! Tonight I made (new to us at home) pasta carbonara. Fail! In fact, they may have (politely) compared it to vomit smelling. Really, not rudely (I know, how can that be???). But we just pointed them towards the fridge and they heated up last night’s win (no short order cooking here). But it did make me want to keep on switching it up to expand our rotation. Any ideas? Do you have family favourites? I think everything is adaptable or has a recipe out there, so just throw me ideas of your family favourites!

Totally agree! I have never been a big fan of the before and after - it feels like such guilt is tied to these photos if you don’t have that success. Or it leads you to try another diet “because this will be the one”. Down with diet culture! It’s a lifestyle, not something that fails 95% of the time. Why would we do that to ourselves???

“The diet industry is a virus, and viruses are smart. It has survived all these decades by adapting, but it’s as dangerous as ever. In 2019, dieting presents itself as wellness and clean eating, duping modern feminists to participate under the guise of health”....

I absolutely loved reading this article and agree with so much of it: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/06/08/opinion/sunday/women-dieting-wellness.amp.html

All except one thing...I disagree with the bashing of the word wellness - mostly because that is part of the name of my business. 😋 I believe that wellness/health is more than whatever your size is and does not define you, but the word itself isn’t necessarily bad to me. I do believe that we do a lot of damage in the name of ‘health’ and our view is it as good or bad. As an RD I am not disguising a diet behind anything, I am a non-diet dietitian 🙂 ...and that is what I talk to my clients about.

She talks about the movement of Intuitive Eating and it really is an amazing concept. Why are we beating ourselves up about food, for almost the same result? I read the book a few months ago and have been helping clients see that this way of living is so much better for us. I sat with someone in my office last week and helped her see this path and I saw the moment when the light went on in her head that she realized that she could enjoy food and give her body what it needs. I got an email from her this morning and she was so happy about this new path we are starting - one of happiness and acceptance for her body and for the food she eats. It can be done!

Why are so many smart women falling for its harmful, pseudoscientific claims?

Hello! It has been a long while since I have posted here :-) It has been a busy spring! I am working on a summer ideas bulletin board for the gym that I do strength training at, and I thought that it would be a great idea to post some of the ideas that I am sharing there, right here as well! Here is my favorite idea so far...

You know how summer is just hot and sticky? At least it is where we live! Do you ever lose your appetite or just not feel like cooking? I think that the key to these days is having foods prepped and ready to go. That way you can just pull them out and put them together. I love a salad or a grain bowl loaded up with veggies on a day when it is either too hot to cook, or I am too tired to think about cooking. If I get home and everything was prepped on a day when I had more time and energy, I am much more likely to re-fuel myself better after a workout. What about you, do you have a favorite go to?

Check out this awesome guide!

I just saw that ‘Body Kindness’ is on sale! $1.99 on amazon for kindle!

With constant bombardment about diet culture and the newest fads this time of year, this book is a good reminder as to how we need to ditch the diet and focus on what our body really knows how to do. Wellness is not about size, diets and forbidden foods. It is about love and acceptance too.

I grabbed a copy and can’t wait to dig in to help my clients understand that they do not need to be a slave to diets. Check it out!

It's soup time! Even though I make soup all year round (usually a fresh veggie one in summer), it is finally chilly enough to make comfort food type soups. Yay! Not so yay when you are making soup because you don't feel great. But I am doing everything I can to get up and running again...literally, because I have my last race of the season this weekend! Here is a recipe for Chicken Noodle Soup :-)

You know that old saying that Chicken Soup cures everything?  Well, I don't know if it is true (I have read a few articles here and there about it), but there d...

This is so applicable for all people and athletes!! Spending time and energy worrying about your body composition isn't worth it. We need to spend time on focusing on what our absolute healthiest is - and that is not the thinnest that you can be. Let's make a goal to focus on learning what good food tastes like, and how easy it can be to prepare!

I went to go to write a blog post yesterday about how I felt alive and awake again post race, and realized that I had written one that was along the same lines...exactly a year and one day later...when my last race was a year and one day different. Sept 10-Oct 4 2016; Sept 9 - Oct 3, 2017. 23 days of recovery time is what it takes me....I kind of consider that an informal study

I woke up this morning and the first thing that popped into my head was "whoa, I feel good. I am awake, naturally at 6:02, and I want to get out of bed and sta...
