On the 9th December, we held a global conference, EqualHealth´s Campaign Against Racism, Palestine Friend´s International Alliance and Doctors Against Genocide, live from the West Bank. We heard from Dr. Mustafa Al-Qawasmi, Director General of Emergency, Ministry of Health and Nebal Farsakh, Palestine Red Crescent Spokesperson and showed recorded testimonies including a testimony from Dr Hussam Abu Safiya.

From the 9th December, as a global community of health workers, healers and organizers we have watched in horror and pain, the burning of Kamal Adwan hospital with patients and health workers inside , along with the abduction and forced disappearance of health worker comrades including Dr Hussam Abu Safiya and the ongoing decimation of health in every sense. As we have done from Haiti against imperialism, from the colonial borders of Spain in the massacring of migrants, in solidarity with Western Sahara and the occupation, we must continue to globally dismantle racial capitalism and all systems of oppression.

We therefore join Doctors Against Genocide´s campaign Sick from Genocide campaign. We will hold a global vigil in Arabic and English, where we will again go live to the West Bank with Palestine International Friends Alliance (PIFA) for current updates, thereafter we will create a space for grief and then globally make sure people activate their communities around the demands of the campaign. We have known for too long that our world is sick with racial capitalism, the world is sick with multiple genocides and Palestine is our compass for a liberated world.

KEEP TALKING ABOUT HAITI!!!!!!

October 17th is Dessaline Day, which commemorates the life of Jean-Jacques Dessalines, the man who led Haitians out of slavery and became the nation’s first president and Emperor 🔥🔥🔥🔥 However, the recent deployment of U.S.-funded Kenyan forces to Haiti, authorized by the United Nations Security Council, is evidence that Haiti remains under the influence of U.S. imperialism.📢📢📢📢

From our working group, we have been collaborating on an op-ed over several months which was sparked by a story told by a comrade from CAR Haiti. The doctor explained to the group the major barriers the child faced not only due to the current context of violence but also the deep centralization of care in the country which has aligned with the US occupation and ongoing imperialist project.

As we were writing the op-ed the 5 year old patient died due to complications in post surgery care. After being in dialogue with the parents of the child, we decided to proceed with publishing the op-ed to speak the truth about the structural violence that did not allow Saskia to receive the care she deserved 💔💔💔Huge gratitude to our Haitian comrades, who are our compass in all of our struggles for liberation 💓💓💓Lifting up Peruth who created such a powerful illustration to accompany us ❤️‍🔥 and to PRISM who gave us this much needed platform to tell stories from their roots.

In our collective pain and in our resistance, we have written these words denouncing Anti-Blackness racism as a living structure killing so many of our Haitian people.

We also situate this Anti Blackness in the wider context of the continued intervention of the US in Haiti and again make the demand for reparations now.

Beloved community,

Please join us Wed Feb 28th 12 ET for this special dialogue on the journey of CAR.

In commemoration of Black History Month in the United States, the O’Neill-Lancet Commission
on Racism, Structural Discrimination, and Global Health and EqualHealth’s Campaign Against Racism (CAR) will hold a public conversation highlighting the global phenomenon of racism, including its impacts on health, highlighting the work CAR’s community organizers have been
undertaking to interrupt the structural roots of observed “race”-associated differences in health
status, tackling racism and its global manifestations.

Drawing on its network of fifteen active chapters across nine countries, EqualHealth’s
CAR organizers collaborate to uncover the historical connections between racism and capitalism to radically imagine a future in which the sociocultural, political and economic systems work towards health equity, rather than against it.

This model of local organizing at the chapter level and building power through global solidarity on cross cutting themes offers critical lessons for
how to tackle racism on a global scale.

Panelists will hold a collective dialogue on the past, present, and future of the CAR movement to dismantle structural racism globally

Hisham Awartani in his own words. Hisham was one of the Palestinian students who was shot two days ago in a targeted hate crime in Burlington, Vermont. The message was posted by SJP at Brown University, where Hisham is a student. Hisham, who was shot along with his two other friends for the simple act of wearing their kuffieyehs and speaking in Arabic, may never walk again. His powerful message calls for the world to see this hate crime as part of the larger story of the Palestinian struggle. We stand with Hisham and his loved ones at this difficult time, and we ask our community to join us in wishing him a full and speedy recovery.

Last week one of our organizers attended the Council on Black Health biannual Convening. It was a powerful moment to reflect and build solidarity towards a future where we have social , economic and political systems based on social justice and equity with all racialized communities enjoying optimal health and well being . Our struggles are intergenerational and connected therefore it is important to connect our local struggles to global movements for solidarity and continue envisioning alternative and more inclusive systems
