We are very excited to welcome Dr. Jayme Wood to Matthews Children’s Clinic! Dr. Wood will be ready to see patients the beginning of November. Get to know Dr. Wood:

I grew up in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and completed my undergraduate degree at UNC Chapel Hill. I obtained a masters in archaeology at University College London before earning my medical degree at Penn State College of Medicine. I moved to Charlotte in 2022 and completed my residency at Levine Children’s Hospital.

While living in London, I met my husband and together we have two beautiful twin girls and a border collie, Patch. I enjoy traveling, creating children’s books, hiking with my dog, and recently learning more about (English) football. My family and I are excited to make Matthews our home and become a part of the community!

I knew early in medical school that pediatrics is where I would call home! I love how children are resilient, curious, and full of energy. The longitudinal relationships with patients and their families is particularly unique to pediatrics, and a large part of what drew me to this specialty. Being able to be a part of a patient’s growth, from infancy to adolescence, is an immense privilege.

My approach to patient care is centered around creating a warm and collaborative environment, where families feel heard and confident in the decisions we make together. Since becoming a mom myself, I know how important it is to recognize and support each child’s unique needs and ensure the parent feels supported as well. Ultimately, my goal is not only to treat illnesses, but also celebrate milestones, and foster healthy development at each stage of childhood.

The legend has retired. Yesterday we bid a tearful farewell to Dr. Thomas as we celebrated his 36 years at Matthews Children’s Clinic. Dr. Thomas has been a blessing to our practice and to thousands of patients over the years. Join us in congratulating Dr. Thomas and wishing him well!

“It has been an honor to care for patients and families since 1989. In the last few years, caring for second generation children has been particularly gratifying. I am humbled by the trust you have shown in me over all these years. Certainly, I will miss watching your children grow and mature, and even more, the relationships that we have developed. On the other hand, I am looking forward to enjoying time with my wife, children and (especially) my eight granddaughters. I also plan to do some mission work with my church and continue to volunteer with Boy Scouts. I couldn’t have practiced all this time without caring and knowledgeable partners. I trust all of them to continue to provide excellent care for all my patients. I hope you will choose to continue to trust your children to their care. Practicing at Matthews Children’s Clinic has been one of my life’s greatest blessings and I pray God’s blessings on you and your families.”

Matthews Children's Clinic is now offering the flu shot to our patients. The flu vaccine can help protect you from serious illness, and we encourage you to get vaccinated soon.

If you have a scheduled appointment coming up soon, we can provide your flu shot during that time. We also will have separate flu clinic appointments during our regular office hours and on Saturdays between September 13th and the end of November. For the best experience, we encourage you to schedule in advance. If you don't already have an appointment, don't worry; we offer many opportunities for you to get vaccinated.
