I've lost count of the number of clients I have shared this video with in the past 2 weeks since I first heard it. So many of us spend our time searching for the "why" of our past happened, like knowing the why is going to magically erase our pain. While I don't necessarily think that it's wasting time to understand why, there are so many therapy techniques that will actually help us process that pain and put it in the past, something that just knowing why might not do. Give this blog from a listen and let me know what you think.

I cannot believe today marks the 5th anniversary of the opening of my practice. There have been so many ups and downs as I learned to run a business and continued to evolve as a therapist. But it has all been so worth it to do this work the way I wanted to do it. Thank you to my clients for trusting me in this work because you are the reason I get to celebrate this milestone. And thank you to my family and friends who support me everyday in this wild career. I look forward to the next five years and more as I continue on this journey!

I want to share this for everyone in the Lake Norman area.

Heartmath is a wonderful biofeedback program that helps to build resilience in your nervous system so you bounce back from stressors more quickly. I have used this program with many of my clients but I am limited to practicing with my clients.

Thankfully iShine’s very own Anita is also a Heartmath practioner and she will be leading a workshop for the community on February 28th. I encourage you to check it out and let me know if you have questions!

“Completing the stress cycle doesn’t always come from fixing the stressor (because sometimes it can’t be fixed). Sometimes it comes through movement, rhythm, connection… or your own version of the zoomies.”

So many of our stressors aren’t “fixable.” What we need is to release the stress it causes our body and then we can move forward.

Where you look affects how you feel.

If you’re interested in exploring more about Brainspotting or EMDR, I am currently accepting new clients and would love to chat with you.

✨🧠 Where you look affects how you feel 🔍

A Brainspot is more than an eye position—it’s a
doorway. A precise point in your visual field that connects to buried emotion, memory, and sensation. It’s where your nervous system flinches, where your story lives beneath the surface.

Brainspotting doesn’t force the mind—it follows the body’s wisdom. It’s gentle. Deep. Somatic. It meets you where you are and helps you move through what’s been held too long.🧘‍♀️

This is trauma therapy that honours your pace. That trusts your brain’s ability to heal when given the right space.🍃

For the first time in forever (cue my Frozen sing along voice) I wrote on my blog. I've had so many ideas to share but time has just not been my friend. But, I finally found some time to sit down and put thoughts into my keyboard that have been sitting with me the longest. This blog speaks about how somatic (body-based) therapies can be more effective for those with trauma histories than traditional talk therapy and why. Let me know what you think and if you have any blogs you'd like to see me write.

Meet my newest furry coworker, Fuzzy the Bear 😀 When scary stuff happens to children they often seek comfort from stuffed animals or other safe objects. So its no surprise when adults are processing childhood trauma, their child parts might still want to seek comfort in a stuffed animal. So Fuzzy is a weighted bear that clients can use to replicate that comfort or hold like they wanted to be held as a child. For my Cooper lovers, please don’t worry that he has been replaced. Cooper is a 75-pound doodle and being held tightly in someone’s lap for 45 minutes might not make him or a client’s legs very happy. But Fuzzy can handle a lot of love so I can’t wait to put him to work next week.

Just a reminder that your mental health is just as important as any other part of your health.

You are loved, and you deserve to be here. Take care of yourself.

When a respected source like the National Geographic is sharing about the power of movement in mental health, we know the landscape of treatment must be changing.

**Please don’t stop taking your medicine if it helps you, but consider the idea you might feel even better if you add movement to your daily routine in addition to your medication.

A new analysis shows that moving to music with others can be a powerful way to ease symptoms of depression. Unlike walking or yoga, dance engages the brain in a unique “neurochemical symphony,” blending physical activity with joy, connection, and self-expression. Here's why it helps and how to harness it, according to experts: https://on.natgeo.com/47WKONQ
