A global study led by Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Atrium Health Levine Cancer shows a major advance for patients with highrisk essential thrombocythaemia (ET) — a rare blood cancer with limited treatment options.

The SURPASSET clinical trial found that ropeginterferon alfa2b delivers significantly better disease control, fewer symptoms and fewer serious complications compared to the current secondline therapy for patients who can’t tolerate hydroxyurea.

With the FDA now reviewing an application to expand the use of ropeginterferon alfa2b for ET, this study marks a meaningful step forward for patients and clinicians.
