Black liberation isn’t just about what we fight against—it’s about what we reclaim.

It’s about resting without guilt.

It’s about seeking joy, not just survival.

It’s about honoring our emotions, not suppressing them.

It’s about knowing that healing is part of our resistance.

The weight we carry isn’t just personal—it’s historical. But we are not meant to just carry; we are meant to release.

💛 Rest is a revolution. Therapy is a revolution. Choosing yourself is a revolution.

Learning to be heart lead and showing up authentically (not merely through achieving and accomplishing) has been a ride. 🎢

I am learning how much unlearning I have to do surrounding how I show up when I’m not “on it”.

And that I don’t have to be on it in order to be deserving of connection.

That I can feel all that I feel through what life brings me and that by choosing to show up just as I am, then my people can see me and show up with me.

Choosing to get curious about finding ways to release has been pivotal. 🪓

I love how much we embodied Black folx being seen in our convo with .logan.lcmhc and .lovelybecoming in Episode 3 💕 (Tune in if you are wondering what’s going on here 🙃)

Cheers to us practicing releasing and to those who have, are, and will prioritize spaces for us and by us to practice experiencing the power of release. 🥂

Scarcity mindset is a way of thinking and behaving that stems from a belief that resources are scarce and limited ☹️

This mindset can lead to feelings of anxiety, fear, and a sense of never having enough. 🥺

It can be an effect of trauma, especially for those who have experienced significant loss or deprivation in their lives. 😩

Understanding and addressing the roots of a scarcity mindset can be an important step in healing from trauma and developing a more abundant and fulfilling life. 👀

For practice when you find yourself thinking or saying this 🙅🏽‍♀️

“There's never enough money”
"I have to hold onto everything I have, or I might lose it."
“There's only a limited amount of success to go around."
"I don't deserve good things."
"I have to compete with others to get what I want."
"I'll never be able to achieve my dreams."
"I'm not talented or smart enough to succeed."

Try affirming these truths instead 🙋🏽‍♀️

“There's always more opportunities to create wealth."
"I can let go of things I don't need, and more will come my way."
"There's plenty of success to go around for everyone."
"I deserve the best things in life."
"Collaboration and cooperation with others can lead to greater success for everyone."
"I believe in my ability to achieve my dreams."
"I have unique talents and strengths that can help me succeed."

I was a therapist who tried to justify being a therapist and not also being in therapy for myself once upon a time 🫠

I am not here to shame anyone who is operating under this same persuasion 👀

BUT I WILL share a few of my lil gifts from “this side of the sofa” after 5 years 😅🙌🏽

🎁 There is nothing wasteful or lazy about resting and making room for my own feelings. Choosing either is an act and a very important one.

🎁 There are no shortcuts out here. Not even for all of the really good therapists 🙄

🎁 Failure is inevitable, how will I love on myself when I do?

🎁 As it turns out: I don’t break, I bend.

🎁  Do the work of knowing what I need and then ask. Boldly.

Biggest flex 💪🏽 Therapy most definitely makes me a better a therapist. It has validated for me how incredible it is to have a Black woman holding space for you, grieving with you, rooting for you, lovingly challenging you, and holding you accountable ❤️

Mine is trying to kick me out y’all 🤣 But I am forever grateful 🥲

…definitely nudging any other therapists who may be on the fence. Go. 🔜

Happy Good Friday ✝️ 🤍 ✨

Hello there! 👋🏽🫶🏽✨

I see many many new faces and wanted to just say “Heyyyyyy!”. My name is Kimberly Reese, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I wear several hats as a therapist, speaker, and coach 👩🏽‍💼

My group practice, , is based in Charlotte, NC, where we are dedicated to providing quality mental health services to our community and fighting the stigma associated with therapy in the Black community.🖤✊🏽

I'm a member of the Beyhive Gang 🐝🐝🐝, love sneakers, am a huge basketball fan, and music is my love language. I can also talk about the enneagram endlessly (which I do with my friend .logan.lcmhc on our podcast, ).

So, I use the word “practice” A LOT with client. Like, A LOT. 😂

Let's get nerdy for a moment...🤓

Did you know that the word “practice” comes from the Old French word "practique," which means practical or actionable knowledge? 👀

And this word came from the Latin word "practicus," also meaning practical or active. 👀👀

And, wait for it... "Practicus" was derived from the Greek word "praktikos," which means fit for action or practice, and it was related to the word "prasso," meaning to do or to act. 🤓🤓

So, the original meaning of "practice" was all about putting knowledge into action or applying it practically.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dropped theoretical gems 💎 and my clients are like “cute…but WHAT DO I DO?” Well, it benefits us to stay curious and lean into practicing.

So for my fellow SWs, if that prayer hit and you want to give it a go, here are five short ones for you to practice on your own.

Like this and save it for later, you know you’re going to need it.

Happy Friday Eve!

I have a confession 👀 🤫🫣

I use to cringe when I was called a Social Worker. 🥴🥴

In my community, Social Worker = broke and “taking people’s kids”. 😑🙄😒

I knew I would be neither.

What I didn’t know then was that I cared a lot about what other people thought about me.

Not wanting to be called a Social Worker was just the tip of the iceberg. 🥶

I realized that I had been putting too much emphasis on external validation, when what I really needed was to find validation within myself. 👏🏽

My own growth, work, and healing has required an understanding of what is true about me and important to me. 🌱

Today, I am so proud to call myself a Social Worker. I believe that no title or other humans will ever define me and know I love and was created to do this work that allows me to help others and make a positive impact in my community. ✨

Happy Social Work Month! Tag a Black Social Worker smashing all types of stigmas and stereotypes on the daily ✊🏽🫡
