The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has approved and authorized oral fluid drug testing as a method to conduct a DOT required drug test (49 CFR Part 40) . Collection sites, Specimen Collectors, Employers or any persons wishing to perform a DOT oral fluid drug test must be DOT qualified by successfully completing a DOT oral fluid collector training course and completing five monitored DOT proficiency collection demonstrations (mocks) utilizing an HHS-approved oral fluid device. Metro Express Logistics’ training team are one of the first group of trainers certified to train DOT oral fluid collectors and monitor proficiency mock demonstrations to become DOT qualified. We are NDASA Approved trainers.
The DOT does not certify specimen collectors. The DOT requirement is to be QUALIFIED to perform specimen collections. In order to qualify to perform oral fluid specimen collections for the DOT drug testing program, a collector must:
Receive training on all steps necessary to complete a collection correctly with the proficiency in the operation of the oral fluid collection device, completion and transmission of the CCF along with dealing with problem collections, fatal flaws, and correctable flaws. The collector must also receive training on their responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the collection process, ensuring the privacy of employees being tested, ensuring the security of the specimen, and avoiding conduct or statements that could be viewed as offensive or inappropriate.
Demonstrate proficiency in collections under this part ( 49 CFR Part 40) by completing five consecutive error-free mock collections.
