My yoga journey began as I was looking to find a gentle form of exercise that would help me to improve my health. A local yoga class appealed to me through its emphasis on finding a balance between effort and ease. After taking my first yoga class, I started to realize that there was so much more to yoga than bending and twisting! The breath work and meditation that accompanied the physical postures opened me up to the path that I am on today. I enjoy teaching gentle yoga, yoga for older adults, and yoga for people living with dementia. I have a deep passion for helping older adults find joy and fulfillment in their everyday lives. Through the Sakhi Yoga Teacher Training School, I gained in depth knowledge and skills for safely teaching yoga in a variety of ways. Seeking to deepen my knowledge and skills, for teaching yoga to older adults, I have also attended the Integrative Yoga for Seniors Professional Training; at Duke Integrative Medicine; which is a part of Duke University. On this yoga journey, I seek to find balance within myself and help others to do the same. I practice keeping an open heart and mind as I strive to live my life with meaning and the peace that yoga brings. I say practice because yoga is truly a practice and not a perfect.

Love this short read! It does state that participants were not able to understand instructions even though they could visually follow the poses. Now, imagine having an instructor that knows how to communicate with people living with dementia and you have a class that's on a whole other level. This is what I do!

Chair-based exercise, and chair yoga in particular, improves quality of life for seniors with advanced dementia, a small study has found.
