Creating a personalized birth plan empowers women to take control of their prenatal, birth, and postpartum care. Crafting a birth plan ensures your needs are known, providing clarity and confidence for one of the most significant moments of your life.

This is just a little shoutout to my childhood best friend for creating this artistic logo just from my simple idea of a pregnant woman and a lotus flower. She’s the bomb!!!! Thank you 🩷

The sky as I traveled to this birth was a sign of the beauty to come. 🌅☀️🌄
It’s okay to be quietly doing birth work. Observing. Seeing the beauty and the intensity. All of the good and the bad and the things you want to change and the things you notice and want to articulate but struggle to find the words between births. The pressure to share beautiful words and eloquent expressions and epiphanies is so overwhelming in this age of social media. As if you can’t be a successful doula without a lengthy caption about birth and a beautiful birth photo posted online every few days.

I read in a book once about the three types of doulas (aka the reason we became a doula) Advocacy. Women. Babies.

The women who join the difficult and sacrificial work of birth keeping for the sake of women and babies are not always cut out to be a speaker and advocate in big ways. Not everyone is cut out to change things in the community in “big” ways. I think a lot of us are here to quietly support communities just by simple holding space in birth and just simply existing in accessibility to the women who reach out to us. We change the world of birth by expecting and knowing normal and in this narrative invoke progress in the world of birth in society.

I say this now, in this post, because I am often not called to share my experience beyond my circle. The pressure is always on to share how birth has changed you and to educate others on a large scale to increase your business. My calling is more personal. I want to sit with you and discuss what birth looks like, what fears need to be addressed. I want to be more and more personal and less and less business like. We can and will change the way people view birth the more personal we are. The more we invest in women and how physically, mentally, and spiritually intelligent we are, with the knowledge that women will give birth with or without us, and our job is to more empower, educate, hold space, and create safety.

One of my favorite births I’ve ever attended. Cheers to a new friend .drumheller and her sweet little family. I thoroughly enjoyed supporting her and was in awe by her strength and determination to birth naturally and trust her body and her baby. So many moments I remember being moved to tears and trying to keep my own emotions at bay so as not to interrupt the energy in the room. She displayed an inspiring amount of calmness even in the midst of transition. Her birth was textbook a true testament to the medical staff at UVA of just how simple and perfect birth can be when you just don’t mess with it. 🖤

No matter what your political stance, no matter what, making a difference in your community is all we can really do and the biggest difference we can make in our little bubble on this earth.
Put effort into your families. Put effort into caring for your neighbors, your friends, the elders, the children, everyone who you think may not need it often need it the most.

Real healthcare for women doesn’t start with abortion access. It starts with community and support, continuity of care, and the love and care we show the women in our lives. The midwives and doulas in your community are doing our best to provide healthcare that works. Healthcare that focuses on the whole body health, the nutrition, rest, exercise, and emotional stability of our women, mothers, daughters, and sisters. Healthcare that doesn’t just say “your baby is doing fine, see you in a month” but healthcare that asks “how are you feeling, what questions can I answer, are you supported, are you getting the nutrients and rest that you need, what resources can I provide for you” and listening to women. Healthcare that listens to the woman sitting in front of us.

Real change starts in your circle. Ask a woman in your life what you can do to support her. Ask a mother in your life what you can do to ease the load. Ask a daughter in your life what questions you can answer or help her find the answer for herself. Ask a sister in your life if she needs someone to chat, a hug, or a kind word. And then? Do what you can. And care for your children and yourself because that is what you have the power to do.

Birth Photography can be an amazing thing to have to look back and see how much power and beauty glows from the mother, and how much love and care is shown by the partner and care team/family, but birth photography can be expensive. I am a new photographer working on my skills and would like to offer a discounted rate for birth photography alone for March through April! I have attended many births as a doula and midwife’s assistant and would be delighted and honored to attend yours and capture its unique and significant journey for you.
