WellAWARE is a Project of the Primary Care Partnership of the University of Virginia, the Charlottesville Free Clinic, and Central Virginia Health Services.

WellAWARE exists to help you and your neighborhood become healthier in every way. What does WellAWARE and its Community Health Workers do?

- Make it easier for you to get good medical care.
- Help you find a Primary Care Provider you can trust.
- Drive you to the doctor or help find transportation.
- Talk with you about chronic illnesses and healthy living.
- Meet with you in your home or community spaces.
- Help with access to healthy food and housing.
- Make referrals to other helping agencies.
- Advocate for your needs in the healthcare system.
- Help you complete Medicaid applications.
- Speak up for healthy changes for your whole neighborhood. How much will it cost to get help from WellAWARE? It’s FREE! There will never be a charge to you or your insurance carrier. It’s also voluntary—you can end services at anytime.

Dorothy Bishop, 71, wanted to know. She’d heard, she told community health nurse Betsy Peyton (BSN ’98), that eating the acidic fruit might interfere with her medications. Kneeling on the floor in Bishop’s living room, Peyton laid it out.
