Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) affects about 30% of U.S. adults and up to 65% of people with type 2 diabetes, yet many patients remain undiagnosed or untreated.

AGA brought together a multidisciplinary expert panel to update its clinical care pathway to reflect key advances in the field, including new disease nomenclature, emerging therapies, and practical tools for identifying patients at risk for clinically significant fibrosis.

The 2025 update provides an evidence-based framework to help clinicians integrate MASLD screening, diagnosis, and management into routine care across primary care, endocrinology, and specialty settings.
