In pregnancy, the date usually refers to the due date ❤️

A due date is the estimated day when a pregnant woman is expected to give birth. It is typically calculated as:
• 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of the last menstrual period
or
• Based on measurements from an early ultrasound 🩺

It’s important to know that the due date is only an estimate. Most babies are born between 37 and 42 weeks, and only a small percentage are born on the exact due date.

fascinating facts about the placenta:

Temporary Organ: The placenta is a temporary organ that develops in the uterus during pregnancy. It connects the developing fetus to the uterine wall, allowing for nutrient uptake, waste elimination, and gas exchange via the mother's blood supply.

Nutrient Supply: It provides oxygen and nutrients to the growing baby and removes waste products from the baby's blood.

Hormone Production: The placenta produces hormones that are crucial for maintaining pregnancy, such as human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), progesterone, and estrogen.

Immune Protection: The placenta also provides some immune protection to the fetus by transferring antibodies from the mother to the baby.

DI-DI (Dichorionic-Diamniotic) Twins
• Dichorionic: Each twin has its own chorion, which means they have separate placentas (though in some cases, the placentas may appear fused but are still functionally separate).
• Diamniotic: Each twin also has its own amniotic sac.

This is the safest type of twin pregnancy because each baby has its own “space” and blood supply, which reduces the risks of complications compared to other twin types.

When does it occur?
• All dizygotic (fraternal) twins are DI-DI.
• Some monozygotic (identical) twins can also be DI-DI, if the embryo splits very early (within 3 days of fertilization).

Summary
• Two placentas
• Two amniotic sacs
• Lower risk compared to other twin types like mono-mono or mono-di
