January is just information, not a verdict. Take what worked, release what didn’t, and move forward with a little more kindness toward yourself.

In a time when we are constantly asked to be resistant and resilient, it’s easy to grow exhausted and lose sight of compassion and community. At New Year, New Beat: Finding Joy is Justice, we were grateful to create a space where people could come together in shared feelings—holding fatigue and frustration alongside joy and optimism. Special thank you to the folks at for this powerful reminder that social justice and mental health are deeply aligned.

There’s something so healing about coming together in rhythm 🤎🥁
It’s not just because it sounds good, but because our body and mind actually respond.

Research shows that group drumming can:
🔻reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
🔻improve social resilience over time, with effects that last beyond the moment itself.
🔻shift the body toward a more balanced, anti-inflammatory state, which is linked to better emotional regulation and stress response.

At New Year, New Beat: Finding Joy in Justice, led a drum circle that reminded us that healing doesn’t only live in words—it lives in the body, in sound, and in community. When we create rhythm together, we regulate, release, and remember that we’re not alone.
