Hello All,
Today concerns all of us…. It’s World Mental Health Day!

We may be individuals but we have one thing in common: our minds must be cared for!

When we care for our mental health it’s easier to build meaningful connections and nurture ourselves.

Take care of yourself with just a few steps.

Here are a few to get you started

- go for a walk
- get good rest and sleep
- do something that you have not done for yourself in a while
- Spend time with loved ones
- Listen to your favorite music and write in your journal

These little steps go a long way!

Sending you peace and light

On Women’s Day, we celebrate the all-around, magnificent beauty that makes a woman;
- her strength,
- determination,
- caring ways,
- and selfless spirit.

It’s Women’s History Month – a month to celebrate and acknowledge the essential role women play in history.

During this time I will showcase myths and misconceptions about mental health issues that have plagued women throughout history.

Cheslie Kryst appeared to have it all but last Sunday she committed su***de by jumping to her death. She was fighting a battle within and desperately just wanted the pain to stop. Many times people do not commit su***de because they want to die. It’s because the pain is so unbearable they want to end that piercing pain. This can happen to anyone. “Maya Galathe, a licensed trauma therapist stated more Black people are suffering than ever before, and the numbers prove it (WAFB.org)”.
”Su***de rates are up in the black community by 30%”

In the black community the first thing you hear is just pray about it or just plain not talk about mental health.

Those are archaic and untrue beliefs that should be dissolved into creating safe spaces and outlets for people to talk about their struggles.

I’m sending love and light to Cheslie’s mom.

If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Su***de Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255). You can also text a crisis counselor by messaging the Crisis Text Line at 741741.

Get to the root of it! Did you know keeping a journal can help organize events in your mind…it can help you make sense of trauma. According to research, it can even take a load off of our brains because we are constantly trying to process that same experience over and over again. Oh, and journaling helps you sleep better.

The Remedy Journal is here.

If you’re thinking about su***de, are worried about a friend or loved one, or would like emotional support, the Lifeline network is available 24/7 across the United States. National Su***de Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255

During BHM, I can’t help but think about the continued lack of representation of Black People in the mental health movement; because of this disservice, the inflicting of harm continues. My goal for this month is to bring you information on the history of systemic racism in the mental health system and how it continues to harm Black communities everywhere. The lack of resources snd stigmas keeps us weighed down by the racial trauma and issues that affect us daily. Having more information and being aware is key for creating a mentally healthier world.
